Properties of the matter The basic property of matter is that it occupies space and has weight [mass] .
• There are three states of matter. • Solid • Liquids • Gas
Molecules in gas
SOLIDS • SOLIDS :-Any substance which has a definite shape and a definite volume at a particular temperature so that it can have • Any number of free surfaces is called solid At that temperature . Example;-a rock a piece of wood ,a bar of iron .
LIQUID • Any substance which has a definite volume but no definite shape and has • Only one free surface at a particular • Temperature is called liquid at that temperature .for example ;-water ;oil ,milk Molecules in liquid
GAS • An easily compressible substance which Has neither definite shape nor definite volume and has no free surface at a particular temperature is called gas at that Temperature . For example Air .
