Analog / Digital communication Overview 4..20 mA HART Wireless HART PROFIBUS PROFINET FOUNDATION Fieldbus IndustrialIT Fieldbus benefits
What are the differences between analog and digital communication in the process automation. analog • Transmission of just one process value (value of current) • Recognizing of physical errors (like line break) possible
digital • More than one process value can be transmitted • Additional status information with each variable • Additional Asset Management data can be transmitted • High resolution of measured value

HART (Highway Addressable Transducer Protocol) Overview 4..20 mA HART Wireless HART PROFIBUS PROFINET FOUNDATION Fieldbus IndustrialIT Fieldbus benefits
Analog transmission with overlayed additional digital informations.
Allows transmission of more than one process information plus bidirectional communication capabilities in addition to 4..20 mA process value. Master station polls all slaves (cyclic communication). Multidrop mode allows bus topologies (otherwise Point-to-Point connection of devices). Digital signal is overlayed on the loop current using Frequency-Shift-Keying. FDT/DTM enabled + EDD enabled. 1.2 kBit/s Remote I/0 or Multiplexer

WirelessHART Overview 4..20 mA HART Wireless HART PROFIBUS PROFINET FOUNDATION Fieldbus IndustrialIT Fieldbus benefits
Wireless standard for the HART protocol.
Allows HART diagnosis and maintenance without wired connection to the device. Basing on IEEE 802.15.4 Standard (Low Rate Wireless Personal Area Network - 2003) -> guarantees long battery life (months up to years) Uses HART command structures HART infrastructure can be reused FDT/DTM enabled + EDD enabled
