ESL 051/052 (Chinn)- Presenter/Audience Expectation Presenter Expectations Areas of Expectation: Eye Contact  looking at the audience, don’t turn your back for a long time.  not looking at the presentation information Body Language  move your hands to express yourself (show energy and interest)- but not too much  don’t lean/rest on anything  look relaxed, smile Voice  use sentences  use vocabulary that everyone can understand  speak up so everyone can hear you  practice the presentation especially difficult words  don’t apologize for your weaknesses Presentation  use key words (less words are better); the goal is not to have the audience read the presentation and not listen to the presenter Clothing/Appearance  more professional clothing- be more conservative (look more serious), no hats/sunglasses  don’t wear too much makeup, jewelry, perfume/cologne  take off your coat  no gum  water is okay  hair- don’t have hair covering your face NOTES:

Raise your hand- request the speaker to talk louder or if you have a question. Take notes- be prepared with paper and pencil/pen. Ask a question but ask one that is related to the topic. Give your opinion about the presenter’s performance (giving a grade). Strengths (required to give at least one idea)  give praise (showing your support of doing something well) of what was done correctly  evaluate the presentation (PowerPoint slides)  state information you learned from the presentation Improvements (required to give at least one suggestion to do better the next time)

Feedback Examples: BAD FEEDBACK:  Did okay.  Did great.  Need to improve. GOOD FEEDBACK:  Spoke clearly and loudly.  Great eye contact.  Nervous- take your hands out of your pocket. NOTES:
