Still not happy Kgautswane was a buzz this week when the government decided to visit the area, with a community meeting (imbizo) held on Tuesday where people got the opportunity to speak their minds about service delivery problems in the area. The Executive mayor of Sekhukhune District Municipality, Cllr Mogobo David Magabe, Greater Tubatse Municipality Mayor, Ralepane Mamaekoa, local councillors and other dignitaries sought to interact with the community over the course of two days, with the public meeting held on Tuesday. People started gathering at the government’s tent next to the clinic from early in the morning and the formal proceedings started at about 13:00. Without much ado the community got the chance to speak their minds. The issues raised were familiar, namely RDP housing, with accusations of favoritism and corruption, the condition of the access and internal roads in the area, water provision and the issue of the the ward councillor, Cllr Joseph Mohlala, who appeared in court more than once recently on charges that he was allegedly reckless with a firearm. More than thirty people spoke their minds, among them members of the so-called Kgautswane Crisis Committee who recently organised a peaceful march in Burgersfort relating to the very same issues. The Committee also did not partake in the closed caucus meetings of the morning and the previous day, choosing instead to speak their minds at the imbizo. The Kgautswane Crisis Committee told the newspaper after the imbizo that the people are still not happy. The chairman, Mr Hendrik Coetzer, says although people have made it clear that the ward councillor should resign or be removed, no clear answer was given to this request. Although the government has promised to look into problems experienced with the distribution of water, no hope was forthcoming on the condition of the roads in the area. He said it was clear that a tarred access road was out of the question in the near future. All that is happening now is the reconstruction of a two kilometre length of gravel road at a cost of about R2,8 million. “It will not help much” he told the newspaper. The Crisis Committee was due to convene a meeting yesterday, where the deadlocked issues would have been discussed. Just before the meeting Mr Coetzer said that it seems the government was playing hide-and-seek with the community and that the primary purpose of yesterday’s meeting was to see what action the Committee could take in future to remedy the situation.

Trouble Bleak future at for Marula? Modikwa
The underperforming Marula platinum mine may be closed if it fails to return to operational profitability, Impala Platinum (Implats) CEO David Brown told the mining publication Mining Weekly in an interview last week. Delivering 45% lower gross Implats profits of R9,8-billion, Brown said that the year ahead remained challenging for Marula. Marula had a difficult year, characterised, Implats said, by reduced productivity and persistent labour issues. “It’s imperative that the operation achieves its production targets,” Brown said in an of the rhodium-price-dependent operation that is losing money and which has been the site of slower-than-expected ramp-up in production and safety stoppages. In reply to a question from mining analyst Nic Dinham, Brown said that a detailed review of Marula was taking place under new management and the results of that review could be anticipated in November. “Quite clearly, we’ll be setting ourselves targets to make sure that the mine is at least breaking even, or is restored to profitability. “Marula is, unfortunately, somewhat subject to the rhodium price, other metal prices and the rand/dollar exchange rate. “From a group perspective, Marula is still net positive at this stage, because we
have the Impala Refining Services contract for Marula. but we want to make sure that it is profitable at operational level as well. “We will be able to come back early next year to tell the market where we are with Marula, but I think the obvious is quite clear: if Marula doesn’t meet its set targets and fails to return to profitability, then we will have to look at closure for that mine,” Brown said. Implats owns 73% of Marula, with Mmakau Mining, a black-owned company headed by Bridgette Radebe, a community-based trust and local Limpopo business interests owning the remaining 27%. Loans obtained from Standard Bank by black economic-empowerment partners for purchasing 27% of Marula amount to R710million. A spokesperson for Mmakau said that he was well aware of the situation at Marula, and declined to comment further. Brown said that, although the tons milled at Marula had increased by 8% to 1,57-million in the 12 months to June 30, this was well short of what had been planned, owing to limited mining flexibility, strikes and accidents. The ramp-up of the new mining plan, in which R398-million capital had been invested, remained behind schedule. While Marula produced 73 000 oz in the year, its net costs rose by 30% to R11 730 a platinum ounce in concentrate, owing to the high inflationary environment and lower-thanplanned throughput.

Trouble struck at Modikwa platinum mine this week when United Association of South Africa trade union (UASA) started a strike yesterday morning follwing the suspension of supervisory personnel at one of the shafts on Wednesday. Details of the strike at Modikwa were not exactly clear when the newspaper phoned the mine early yesterday and no immediate response could be obtained from the mine. An UASA member phoned the newspaper, saying that members of the National Union of Mineworkers at one of the shafts downed tools on Wednesday, demanding that two of their supervisors be suspended. According to the UASA member the demands of the NUM members were met, but that it was unfair to the supervisors. The nature of the dispute between the supervisors and workers at the shaft were not available at the time of going to press. UASA members say the initial NUM members reaction came after safety rules were strictly enforced by the supervisors. According to UASA members at the mine, this is now the sixth time in eight years that supervisors were suspended because of the same type of incident and that they cannot work in these circumstances. At the time of going to press a large number of UASA members were gathered at the central administration offices at the mine, waiting for the outcome of a management meeting where one of the suspended supervisors were also present as far as could be determined. UASA members also allege that the right procedure was not followed with the suspension of one of the supervisors, as he was only told that he was suspended after he arrived for work yesterday morning. Keeping space for a possible Modikwa update before going to press, this monkey was recently photographed at Tubatse Chrome Club’s golf course.

Are you getting the service you Service is something we often hear complaints about. People feel that they deserve good service and undivided attention when they are paying customers. We asked our readers whether they feel they are receiving the customer service they deserve from the shops, banks, filling stations, restaurants, taxi services etc. in the Burgersfort area.
Me. Jeanette Langa sê: “Nee, daar is nie diens nie. Nie by die winkel nie, nie by die taxi nie en by die bank is dit ook nie”.
“Die diens is nie so sleg nie. Dis maar normaal soos op ander plekke ook,” sê me. Ria Snyman en me. Anneline Snyman. By hulle is Angie.
Ms. Margret Makofane said: “Ja, we are getting service. There is nothing wrong with Burgersfort’s service”.
Ms. Eldah Mashaba said: “People must improve their service. Especially the taxi’s”.
Mr. Patrick Mogakala said: “Yes, the service is very nice. They don’t crook me at the shops”.
“They must improve, especially at the shops,” said Mr Ishmael Mogakala.
Ms. S.M. Matibidi said: “The ABSA bank queues are too long and that is not good service. The whole taxi industry is also a problem. We need more buses. The taxi drivers shout at us”.
Mr kloppers Nyamurowa said: “So far, so good. The taxi’s must improve on their time table. Sometimes transport is not frequent enough and when it arrives these guys are not very courteous”.
Mr Jan Motene said: “They need to improve on service. The taxi’s - we get in and then they go to get petrol and we must wait. They must first go and put in petrol and then come to us, so that they can take us directly home”.
Mnr. Arend Moll sê: “Die kitsbanke is altyd baie vol en ‘n probleem, daar is dikwels ook dié probleem by vulstasies”. By hom is Markus.
Mr Lebogang Malapane said: “No, I am not at all satisfied with the service. Sometimes people just don’t know about customer care. Will it improve as we are just around the corner from 2010?”

Mnr. Leon Kotze sê: “Ek het nog nooit diens gekry soos een keer by ‘n spesifieke ou by Truworths Man nie. Hy het al die reekse vir my gewys, wat dit kos ens. Dit was regtig uitsonderlike diens”.
Ms. Winnie Maroga said: “Yes, we do get service, I love it”.
“Die OK se diens is puik. Diens in die algemeen? Dit hang af van waar jy gaan,” sê me. Evelyne van Jaarsveld.
Mr. Desmond Magabe said: “The service is all right. The Standard Bank service should become more geared for the end of the month. They must control the queues”.
Mr Speed Kgwetiane said: “The service is all right. We have a shortage of shops. That is why we have to queue. ABSA bank needs to be enlarged”.
Ms. Maureen Malaka said: “Yes, I think we get good service. When I go into the bank, the line goes fast”.
Me. Magda Smit sê: “Die diens is pateties in Burgersfort. Ek ry liewer Lydenburg toe om my besigheid te gaan doen”.
Ms. Thalitha Makgoga said: “Can I complain? When I go to the bank I must queue, when I go buy food I must queue. I am so frustrated. I can’t come to Burgersfort from the 25th to the 30th of every month”.
Mr Lucky Moropane said: “They need to improve the service so that our town can be loved and regarded for its superior service”.
Mnr.

Nedbank Cup Sekhukhune winners The final of the Nedbank Cup for the Sekhukhune region took place on Sunday, 6 September at Longtill. All the matches, including the final was delayed with approximately one hour due to the absence of a net for the goalbox. This discovery was made when the first match was due to start. The problem was however sorted out and the teams took each other on to determine the two best teams for the final. In the final Maatlopo United FC played against RT Giant Killers. “We meant business from the start,” said the Maatlopo United PRO, Jimmy Makola. Early in the match two golden opportunities to score were missed, but in the 20th minute of the game, Thapelo Moropane managed to score with a corner kick. Maatlopo almost scored again but the ball hit the crossbar and no further goals were scored. The half time score was 1-0. During the second half Giant Killers came out strong and managed to even the scores despite Maatlopo’s strong defence. The Giant Killers were reduced to a 10 man team after one of their players were given a second yellow card in the 65th minute of the game. This gave Thapelo Moropane the opportunity to increase the Maatlopo lead to 2-0. He was also named Player of the Match for his goals. On 12 September Maatlopo will play against Tubatse United in Praktiseer. On Sunday 13 September Maatlopo will face the Sekhukhune Celtics from Nebo. This game will take place at the Moroke stadium. Both games will start at 15:00. “We are happy to be the Sekhukhune champions. We are ready to meet other regions such as Vhembe, Capricorn and Mopani,” Makola added. He also thanked their supporters for their dedication no matter where they play. Anyone who would like to enquire about the games can contact Jimmy Makola at 073 775 57795 of Sydney Mokoka on 072 869 4418. Readers can keep an eye on the newspaper to fiind out how Maatlopo United will be performing in the upcoming games against the other regions.

Op toer Die Tubatse Chroom Gholfklub het verlede Saterdag ‘n ‘Around the world’ gholfdag gehou.
