Differential backlash inspection

1. Install drive shafts on the differential, then place the axle on V-blocks 2. Check backlash of the pinion gears (A) with a dial indicator (B). 3. If the back lash is out of spec, replace the differential carrier.

Backlash spec

0.05 - 0.15 mm (0.002 - 0.006 in)
