علمہ محمد اقبال Moahmmed Sir Iqbal (1877 - 1938) was a persian speaking Muslim poet and mystic Indian descent and is considered as the national poet of Pakistan. Most of his works are in Persian language. After studying philosophy from 1905-1907, he traveled to Europe and studied in Cambridge, Munich and Heidelberg law and philosophy and a made his doctorate in philosophy at the University of Munich. His teaching years in Europe led to the confrontation with comparable Western and Islamic philosophy. He developed a striking sense of mission and called in his hometown a solidarity coexistence of Muslims and the quest for intellectual advancement. Among his most important works include Asrar-e-Khudi (GV "The secrets of the self"), 1915, Payam-e-Mashriq (GV "The message of the East") 1923, is written in response to Goethe's West-Eastern Divan.
