Partial correlation Used
in a situation where three and four variables involved.
Three
variables such as age, height & weight.
The
correlation b/w height & weight can be computed by keeping age constant.
Denoted
by “ r12.3 ”
QUESTION From
the following data, calculate the correlation b/w variable 1 & 2 keeping the 3rd constant. r12 = 0.7 ; r13 = 0.6 ; r23 = 0.4
Solution
:-
Multiple correlation Dealing
with situations that involve three or more variables.
One
dependent & rest are independent.
Dependent
variable is always denoted by X1 & others by X2, X3, X4, etc.
question The
following zero-order, correlation coefficients are givenr12 = 0.98 ; r13 = 0.44 & r23 = 0.54
Calculate multiple correlation coefficient treating 1st variable as dependent & rest are independent.
