DATE: 22 July 2007 r 8/6 PROJECT NAME: Pantenusu Primary School DSCA PROJECT NUMBER: ODC PRIORITY: PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Renovate two existing school buildings (~2000 and 1500 sf) and associated bathroom facilities. Specific scope items include: • Add electrical fixtures for future power connection. • Use existing well and install water catchment system for bathroom water. • Improve site drainage by use of gutters and sloping. • Paint interior and exterior, repairing wall/window/door as needed • Replace roof with new corrugated tin roof or tile, including gutters • Renovate/repair flooring and install tile or equivalent; include wainscott of ceramic tile along wall, to 5 feet • Install mosquito screening at all open vents/windows • Install suspended ceiling • Renovate existing school bathrooms with new fixtures, and new septic system and drainfield • Provide pavers or other impervious surface for interior courtyard, maintaining proper drainage • Install retaining wall to prevent erosion on end of three class-room building • Install permanent CMU wall within two room school building • Evaluate providing limited lighting using photovoltaic technologies • Renovation of Public Toilets • Include 40 new desks per classroom and blackboards / white boards (minimum 2 per classroom) • Include lockable closet in each building and supply with O&M materials for each project (window screens, door and window hardware, three gallons paint each color for touch up, roofing tile, ceramic tile, etc) • Small brass plaque for USACE/US Embassy identification • FUNDING STATUS: LOCATION: Pantenusu Village Lembeh Island, Bitung City, Northern Sulewasi Province GPS COORDINATES: ELEVATION: SITE DESCRIPTION: School is located in a small village on Lembeh Island accessible only by sea. Site includes two school buildings built in 1984 with a total of five classrooms and an office for approx 60 students grades 1 – 6 within the village. School

includes a 2-hole latrine in a separate building that drains into a covered infiltration galleries. Buildings consist of corrugated tin roof, reinforced brick block walls and concrete floor. Roof wood trusses in are in good shape but tin roof leaks badly, damaging walls and floor. Site drainage is poor. Space is tight but adequate, unencumbered real estate, no significant flooding issues. Existing open water well with water bucket attached to rope. Toilet is flushed using water bucket and small water tank in bathroom. Access to site is good.
