To shut down, press the unit's "OFF" button, and the stove enters a cool down period, and then shuts down completely. For further instructions and thermostat operation, refer to the owner's manual. Keep viewing door and ash removal drawer tightly closed during operation.

The Bixby Model #100 is qualified to be exempt under 40 CFR 60.531, therefore the results have not been submitted for certification. Planning the Installation: The Bixby Energy Systems No. 100 unit is intended for use in buildings, manufactured homes or for mobile home installation (see page 6 for mobile home installation instructions). CAUTION: The Bixby Room Heater should not be installed at a location where it could come in contact with curtains, drapes, walls, carpeting or other combustible surfaces. The Bixby Room Heater must not be installed in a sleeping room. When choosing a location, proximity to an electrical outlet and the best location for the venting outlet and its connecting piping should be considered. CAUTION: This Bixby Room Heater must be installed only by an authorized dealer, and/or by individuals who are technically qualified and versed in any local codes or regulations that may apply to installation and application of heating equipment of this type. Clearances specified in this manual are minimum and any reduction must be approved by the regulatory authority. When the Bixby Accessory Stove Mat is to be used, place it at the desired location. To assure safe operation, it is absolutely essential that a floor protective device of metal or other non-combustible material be in place beneath the Bixby Room Heater. Note drawing below to determine dimensions from the edge of the heater. Performing the Installation: The unit is shipped completely assembled. It is enclosed in protective packaging material, and attached to a shipping pallet. A shop cart or other suitable material handling device (minimum capacity of 350 lbs.) will be needed to transport the Bixby Room Heater to its desired location. To bring the Bixby Room Heater into the room chosen, a door opening of at least 2' 8''/79.80cm will be needed. Appropriate tools will be needed to connect the venting pipes and fittings, as well as a hole-cutting device for venting the piping to the outside. Venting materials (specifically intended for pellet or biomass application) are available from Bixby Energy Systems, Inc. See owners manual and vent manufacturer instructions for installing the venting components.

Performing the installation (Contíd): IMPORTANT: Proper material handling equipment must be available to safely transport and position the Bixby Room Heater. 1. Remove the protecting packaging, using appropriate tools, and detach the unit from its shipping pallet. 2. Using a suitable transporting device, move the unit to the desired location, centering it on the Bixby Accessory Stove Mat or an alternate protective plate. Care should be taken not to mar the Stove Mat, we suggest placing protective material under the Bixby Room Heater when positioning it. 3. Level the unit by adjusting the height of its legs. Leveling the unit is required to maintain consistency of the burn. Mobile Home Installation WARNING; DO NOT INSTALL IN A SLEEPING ROOM. CAUTION; The structural integrity of the mobile home floor, walls and ceiling/roof must be maintained (ie Do not cut through floor joists, wall studs, ceiling trusses, etc.) 1. A Bixby direct-vent system must be used to provide an outside air inlet for combustion air and must be unrestricted. 2. The stove must be secured to the mobile home by bolting it to the floor (using lag bolts). 3. The stove must be grounded with #8 copper grounding wire or equivalent, terminated at each end with an NEC approved grounding device. 4. Refer to pages 7 and 8 for typical horizontal or vertical mobile home venting installation. 5. Refer to clearances to combustibles section on pages 7 and 8 for distances to combustibles and appropriate chimney systems. 6. Seal all wall and floor inlets to prevent air or moisture penetration. Check periodically to ensure inlet is free of obstruction, such as snow and ice. 7. Installation should be in accordance with the Manufactured Home and safety Standard (HUD), CFR 3280, Part 24.

Venting Installation and Instructions:

Instructions provided by the venting materials manufacturer should be followed, and all local codes and fire regulations and ordinances must be observed. INSTALL VENT AT CLEARANCES BETWEEN VENT PIPING AND COMBUSTIBLE SURFACES AS SPECIFIED BY THE VENT MANUFACTURER. See the vent manufacturerís instructions supplied with the venting material, or consult vent manufacturerís website. The No. 0100 is designed for use with "BIXBY" direct-vent system or 3'' (76mm) diameter type "L" or "PL" venting system for the chimney and its connector. CAUTION: Type B gas vent, dryer vent, aluminum or PVC (plastic) piping must not be used for venting the Bixby Room Heater under any circumstances!

CAUTION: DO NOT INSTALL A FLUE DAMPER IN THE EXHAUST VENTING SYSTEM OF THIS UNIT. DO NOT CONNECT THIS UNIT TO A CHIMNEY FLUE SERVING ANOTHER APPLIANCE.

The Bixby Room Heater may be vented either vertically or with a horizontal direct vent. Join pipes together with at least three sheet metal screws spaced around the circumference. Secure the pipes to the starter collar on the back panel of the Bixby Room Heater in the same fashion. All 3'' dia. inside joints must be sealed with high temperature (500°F/260°C) silicone sealant, (consult the following illustrations). Consult installation instructions provided with the unit for further instructions.

Vent outlet considerations: Where passage through a wall, or partition of combustible construction is desired, the installation shall conform to CAN/CSA-B365. The vent must not connect to any air distribution duct or system, or exhaust into an enclosed or semienclosed area, but directly to the outside. Termination in a garage, attic, crawl space or other location in which fumes can build up must be avoided. The installation with the vent extending vertically through the roof of the building must have the proper termination cap installed. In a horizontal venting application, if the vent terminates near ground level, be sure it exhausts at least 12'' (305mm) from the ground surface, and not near a combustible surface, grass, plants or shrubs. The exposed surface at this distance must be rock, dirt, concrete, etc. The termination point must be at least 2' (610mm) from any combustible material (nearby structures, fences, roof overhangs, shrubs, etc.). It also must exit at least 7' (2.1m) from any walkway; 2' (.61 m) from any adjacent building; not less than 3' (.91m) above any forced air inlet located within 10' (3m); and not less than 4' (1.2m) below, 4' (1.2m) horizontally from or 1' (304mm) above any door, window or air inlet into any building. The horizontal venting system must have the proper termination cap installed. NOTE: It is recommended that a carbon monoxide detector be installed to ensure protection from the hazards of carbon monoxide. It is also recommended that a smoke detector be installed for early warning in case of fire.

Fuel for the Bixby Biomass-fired Room Heater:

It is strongly recommended that only Dry Shelled Corn, Wood Pellets, or Bixby Certified Corn or Biomass Pellet Fuel be used in this stove. When using Dry Shelled Corn, it is better to use as clean a corn as possible with moisture level around 14% or less. Use Wood Pellets made for use in Pellet stoves.The desirable properties of this fuel are listed on its bag. Bixby Certified Corn & Bixby Certified Biomass Fuel Pellets are available from your Authorized Bixby Dealer. Caution should be used in using unclean or high moisture corn. Corn that is unclean can produce undesirable deposits and excessive ash in your stove and heating efficiency can be dramatically affected. Corn of more than 14% could generate mold as well.Use of unsuitable fuel may harm the Bixby Room Heater and could void its warranty. The Bixby Model 100 Room Heater is specifically designed for Dry Shelled Corn, Wood Pellets, Bixby Certified Corn & Bixby Certified Biomass Fuel Pellets (Up to 8,700 BTU's per pound). High-grade wood pellets may be used, but cleaning of Bixby Room Heater and venting components may be required more frequently due to excess ash resulting from fuel contamination from pitch and other impurities in the wood. CAUTION: Do not burn garbage, or flammable fluids such as gasoline, naptha or engine oil in your Bixby Room heater. Store any fuel away from your heater.

Operation of the Bixby Room Heater:

NOTE: It is recommended that all plated surfaces of the Bixby Room heater be cleaned with a mild glass cleaner before initial startup. 1. Open the Fuel Hopper Door on the top of the Bixby Room Heater and fill the hopper with Bixby Certified Corn or Biomass Pellet Fuel, or an approved alternative. The capacity of the fuel hopper is approximately 100 lbs. CAUTION: Operate the Bixby Room Heater only with the Fuel Hopper Door closed. Failure to do so may result in emission of products of combustion from the Fuel Hopper under certain conditions. Do not overfill or extend this hopper. 2.

Plug in the Bixby Room Heaterís grounded, 3-prong power cord. A grounded 115 volt, 60 Hz, 15 amp power supply is required. Do not use extension cords. The furnished power cord must be plugged directly into a suitable outlet. Route power cord away from the Bixby Room Heater. NOTE: Use of a surge protector is recommended but not required for heater operation.

Flashing Indicator Light System The 8 heat level indicator lights on the Bixby Heater are also designed to act as potential problem indicators. Whenever one of these lights begins to flash, consult the chart below for reason and recommended solution. Light #1

Power failure during stove operation: Push the "Off" button and then the "On" button to restart.

Light #2

Operating temperature not reached: Push the "Off" button and then the "On" button to restart. Hopper out of fuel.

Light #3

Exhaust system or hopper area is overheating: Contact your Bixby Dealer.

Light #4

Stove door is ajar or exhaust fan not functioning: Make sure the door is tightly closed. Contact your Bixby Dealer if problem continues.

Light #5

Ash bin drawer is ajar: Make sure the ash drawer is tightly closed.

Light #6

Igniter failure: See operating instructions for manual ignition. Contact your Bixby Dealer for service.

Light #7

Upper fire pot mechanical malfunction: Push the "Off" button and then the "On" button to restart.

Lower fire pot mechanical malfunction: Push the "Off" button and then the "On" button to restart.

Note: A quick ash dump and restart can be selected during the cool down period or when any flashing lights appear by pressing the "Off" button and then the "On" button. This does not apply for exhaust or over temperature LED#3.

Operation of the Bixby Room Heater (Cont'd):

3. Manual Operation: Press the "On" button on the Control Panel, and press the up/down arrows to adjust the Comfort Control to bring heat output to the desired level (the "Up" arrow increases the heat output, the "Down" arrow decreases it). The first time the Bixby Room heater is used, or in cases when fuel in the hopper has been completely expended, sufficient fuel may not have been supplied to allow the unit to start properly. If this happens, press the "On" button to restart the unit after fuel begins feeding into pot. 3a. Optional Thermostat Operation: This option is not provided directly from the factory, but can be purchased from your dealer or the Bixby website. All installation and operation instructions will be supplied with the thermostat. 3b. Manual Igniting Information: To manually ignite the Bixby Heater, press the "On" button on the control panel and open the burner door. Fuel will start feeding for approximately 2 minutes. Ignite the fuel in the burn pot with a torch and maintain a flame for approximately 3 to 4 minutes. Shut the burner door and verify that the flame is sustained. Wood pellets and starter gel may help if there is difficulty in manual starting.

Operation of the Bixby Room Heater (Contíd): 4.

Normally, the fuel will ignite within three minutes, and full flame stability will be achieved within twenty minutes. Heat production will then begin to reach the desired comfort level. If ignition does not take placewithin this time and there is fuel in the burning area, press the "Off" button and then the "On" button to restart the unit. CAUTION: FRONT SURFACES OF THE BIXBY ROOM HEATER WILL BE HOT WHEN THE UNIT IS IN OPERATION. DO NOT TOUCH, AND KEEP CHILDREN AND CLOTHING AWAY. CONTACT MAY CAUSE SEVERE BURNS. KEEP FURNISHINGS AND OTHER COMBUSTIBLE MATERIALS AT LEAST 2 FT. (610mm) DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE BIXBY ROOM HEATER.

To shut down the Bixby Room heater, press the "Off" switch on the control panel, and allow three to four minutes for flame-out to occur. Convection Blower will continue to run until cool-down period is reached. All circuits will automatically shut down after approximately 10 minutes. Power Outages: If there is a momentary (less than 10 second) loss of power, your heater will return to the set heating level. If the power is interrupted for longer than 10 seconds, you will have to restart your unit after the power is restored. Ash Drawer: Opening the ash drawer during heater operation will disable the dump process. Burner Door: Opening the burner door will cause a vacuum failure. The unit will go directly into a shut-down mode after approximately 1 minute.

CAUTION: Never use highly-volatile fuels such as gasoline, gasoline-type lantern fuel, kerosene, charcoal lighter fluid, wood starter gel or similar substances in the Bixby Room Heater. Keep all such liquids well away from the Bixby Room Heater when it is in use. Use of such fuels could cause over-firing and will void the unitís warranty.

Maintenance and Cleaning Procedures: With the use of Bixby Certified Corn or Biomass Pellet Fuel, the frequency of cleaning is minimized, and should be required only once a month under normal conditions. Clinkers and hard-to-remove deposits will be minimized when approved fuel is used. A cleaning brush is included with the Bixby Room Heater for periodic cleaning. CAUTION: Always be sure to unplug the Bixby Room Heater from its power source and allow it to cool before any maintenance procedures are performed. Components requiring periodic cleaning: 1.

Fire Pot/Burner: This device is powered by two electric motors. The automatic operation serves to eject the ash/deposits from the Fire Pot. The sidewalls of the fire pot should be scraped monthly, to remove deposits.

Heat Exchanger Tubes. There are two banks of Heat Exchanger Tubes, both of which are equipped with a cleaning lever. These levers are reached by opening the fire box door. The levers are located on each side of the fuel chute. To clean, pull the lever straight up approximately 4'' (101mm). Move the lever up and down a couple of times. Frequency of Cleaning the Heat Exchanger: To assure optimum heating efficiency, clean the Heat Exchanger at least once a month, or more frequently if needed. Open the fire box door and remove the screws holding the Heat Exchanger Covers in place, then remove the covers. Brush down loose ash and vacuum out the fire box.

3. Igniter Port: To assure maximum ignition efficiency, clean the igniter opening on the bottom of the lower pot during normal cleaning schedule. Note: Electrical elements are within 1/2'' of the edge of the igniter port. DO NOT DAMAGE the elements with the cleaning device.

Maintenance and Cleaning Procedures (Contíd): 4.

Ash Drawer: This container should be emptied as needed. With the Bixby Room Heater simply pull the Ash Drawer out and empty its contents. CAUTION: Drawer and contents may be hot. Ashes should be placed in a metal container with a tight-fitting lid. The closed container of ashes should be placed on a non-combustible floor or on the ground, well away from all combustible materials, pending final disposal. If the ashes are disposed of by burial in soil or otherwise locally dispersed, they should be retained in the closed container until all cinders have been thoroughly cooled.

Soot and Fly ash Formation and Need for Removal. The products of combustion will contain small particles of fly ash. The fly ash will collect in the exhaust venting system and restrict the flow of the flue gases. Incomplete combustion, such as occurs during start-up, shutdown or incorrect operation of any heater will lead to some soot formation which will collect in the exhaust venting system. Inspect the exhaust venting system at least yearly, cleaning as required. Use only an approved ash vacuum for this purpose.

Exhaust Fan: CAUTION: Unplug the Room Heater from its power source before cleaning the impeller To access this component, remove fasteners, open Right Side Door, and remove inspection covers. Using the furnished brush and a vacuum, clean the impeller. This cleaning should be performed at least once a year.

Troubleshooting Procedures: When experiencing a malfunction, please read through the following list of possible problems to determine which of them most closely approximates the trouble you are encountering. This will reduce troubleshooting time and effort. Adjusting the fuel rate and exhaust fan speed trim pots (located behind the left side panel) will solve most start-up and run problems. CAUTION: Always be sure to unplug electrical connection to Bixby Room Heater before any service procedures are performed. Problem

Possible Cause/Remedy

1. No response when Room Heater is plugged in.

A. Check the 120 volt power supply circuit for adequate voltage. B. Check breakers and reset if necessary.

2. No fire or fuel in combustion Area of Room Heater.

A. Check to assure that there is fuel in the hopper. B. Check to assure that the fuel feeder chute is not blocked by fines or "bridging" of fuel pellets or kernels. C. Push the "Off" button and then the "On" button to attempt a new startup. D. Door or ash drawer ajar.

3. No fire, but partially- burned fuel in the combustion area.

A. Check bottom of Fire Pot for built-up ash or deposits and remove. B. Push the "Off" button and then the "On" button to attempt a new startup.

Troubleshooting Procedures (Contíd): 4.Fire fails to start.

A. Be sure enough fuel is in the Burner. Fuel should cover the bottom to a level of approximately 1/4''. B. Check bottom of Fire Pot for built-up ash or deposits and remove. C. Check for flashing light #6. D. Push the "Off" button on the Control Panel. Wait three minutes and push the "On" button to attempt a new startup. E. Check the igniter reset button located on the back panel.

5.Fire starts but shuts down after approximately 12 minutes.

A. Check Feeder Chute to be sure fuel is feeding. B. If feeder stops after 12 minutes, Electronics may be faulty; contact your dealer for service.

6. Dark yellow flame, slow start-up or excessive smoke present.

A. Check for spent fuel or too much fuel clogging bottom of Fire Pot. B. Check exhaust flue fan to be sure it is operating. If not, check connections. C. Check vent pipe for blockage of exhaust gasses and incoming combustion air.

7.Smoke from convection air outlet.

A. Immediately shut down unit, ventilate the area and contact your dealer.

8. Excessive volume of fire, build-up of ash and dirty glass.

A. Burner may require cleaning B. The venting system or Heat Exchanger may need to be cleaned.
