Modern Software Telecom Suite

Resource Management

www.softline.kiev.ua

Introduction Continuous evolution of telecom networks makes efficient management of network resources extremely important for the Telco businesses. Increasing network complexity, sophisticated Modern Software Telecom Suite is a joint multiplexing and layering schemes should be handled initiative of Softline and Microsoft with ease. Integrated services demand precise companies in the field of OSS solutions for knowledge of the network resource inventory. Service the communications service providers. MSTS based on the concept of NGOSS oriented architectures (yet to be deployed in many TeleManagement Forum, as well as on enterprises) requires inventory management systems modern and proven technologies and to be integrated to the enterprise’s IT environment. approaches. Unity of solution is ensured by

the usage of Microsoft platform.

Telecom industry is for sure one of the fastest developing industry in the world. After the boost in IT technologies, the world of communications has change significantly. In the conditions of strong competition telecom operators face new challenges: how to save existing customer in “wild hunt” for new ones? How to increase ARPU, at the same time providing client with the newest services for lower price? How to guarantee uniqueness and highest quality of the service? How to increase efficiency of business processes within the company? Operational support systems (OSS) were developed to answer most of the questions that bother modern telecom operator. Automation of IT-resources management provides operators with opportunity to cut the expanses and develops bases for successful business initiatives. Organization-wide integration of people, information, business-processes and resources increases company’s capability to react promptly on market changes, what gives an operator competitive advantage. Increase in labor productivity of employees also gives an opportunity to reduce expenses and receive maximum revenue. Main requirements to OSS solutions:     

Support of the technologies and standards, used in telecom network operator such as: ATM, Frame relay, SDH, PDH, GSM, CDMA, UMTS, MPLS, xDSL, DPT, xWDM. Easy integration into existing infrastructure of service provider Component architecture, proven technology and scalability in order to minimize running cost Flexible customized solution able to meet wide range of customers requirements Compliable with broader range of industry standards

Product description Efficient resource utilization is mandatory while heading to success in the modern market of telecom services. Leveraging the current network infrastructure by using Inventory Management System means maximizing revenues, minimizing expenditures and improving service quality.

The inventory module was designed to store the precise and complete description of the network elements. Objects like network links and network equipment create the complex interconnected structures in the area. GIS system used in the product helps to manage resources in the specific regions precisely and efficiently. Resource Inventory Management Module is capable to store nested objects, communication layers, object’s specification, objects position on the map as well as field operation data. Optimized search function enables retrieval of needed information using simple and intuitive interface. Cable management

Cable management module allows telecom provider to create complete and unified model of all linier-cable constructions:     

Cable lines Cable segments and sections Cable routes Joints Conduits

The powerful set of tools of GIS module allows operator to receive accurate up-to-date information about cable location on the map with the required level of the detailing (country, region, city, street). Also GIS is suitable and flexible tool for the planning of the network infrastructure development. Key features 

Modeling of cable infrastructure 

Storage of detailed information on cable lines, segments and cable sections with specification to the physical conductors and radio channels.

Possibility of linkage of recourses to the geographical map manually and automatically while generating groups of objects.

Description of conductor’s connections inside joints, and detailed description of routes.

Automatic generation of objects during creation of complex infrastructure.

Planning of cable infrastructure development 

Evaluation of technical capacities for the network development.

Creation of the list of technical assignments.

Automatic generation of objects during network planning.

Network fault management 

Monitoring of the damaged network areas, exact damaged points, damaged resources and determination its geographical location.

Users and clients notification: alarm messages, SMS, e-mail.

Creation of the repair assignments list.

Set of business operations on actualization of network structure 

Adding of sites and joints in case of cable damage.

Creation of branch for the client’s connection to the network.

Automation of large number of conductor’s connections.

Physical resource management

How to use the potential of network resources in full and to increase the efficiency of network exploitation? How to receive actual and exact information about the current state of network resources? How to manage effectively network recourses from different vendors? Physical Resource Inventory Module was developed in order to answer these questions. In one system telecom operator can unify detailed information about active and passive equipment from different vendors, while integration with monitoring systems and management systems can help to keep up-to-date information. Key features 

Sites infrastructure modeling 

Accumulation of necessary information about sites and places: plans, schemes, pictures, floor space information, rental agreements, responsible divisions etc.

Description of the places structure, sites and located equipment (e.g. building, floor, room, rack, multiplexor, optical cross etc.).

Resource management 

Management of equipment from different vendors with the possibility of modeling new types of devices.

Inventory of the related equipment (energy, measure tools, office equipment) with the required set of characteristics and detailed description of the structure.

5

Detailed description of the equipment structure 

Detailed modeling of the racks, devices, shelves, cards, ports and specific characteristics description.

Description of patchcords and patch panels

Integration with EMS for the actual information about equipment state.

Logical resource management

The main purpose of logical recourse management module is to effectively manage telecommunication network capacities by using different technologies and methods. By describing of known network technologies, this module allows operator to reconstruct network model from cable constructions and physical recourses up to capacities and services. Key features 

Network elements inventory 

Network element is described with the set of attributes (network element type, status, required information from network management system and additional information).

 

Description of physical (links) and logical (circuits) connections between network recourses.

Management of network topology 

Display, editing and creation of connections between network elements on the different levels of capacitive recourses.

 

Creation of detailed logical infrastructure of the network.

Capacity Management 

Analyzing of network capacity usage based on different technologies

Network model is based on international standards and implies multilevel approach in description of relevant technologies.

System supports most of network-related technologies: SDH/SONET, PDH, xWDM, GigE, Microwave, IP/MPLS , GSM etc. New technology can be easily described by using flexible system model.

Displaying of network routes with the detailed information on technologies which are used in their organization.

The picture shows an example of schemes which describes the «PDH over SDH» и «PDH over Microwave» technologies. System allows to create similar model and replace old method of capacity management.

Integration with NMS in order to receive actual up-to-date information on status of logical infrastructure.

Integration with Fault Management systems and support of user notification in case of network faults.

Data search

The information systems of such level usually stores millions of objects, which form network infrastructure of telecom operator. During the daily routine, user works only with the part of this information. The set of instruments and filters is used for the quick search of needed data. For the generation of specific reports user can use search templates or built–in capabilities of
