Organization and Human Resource Consulting Effective Delegation Steps for Effective Delegation 1. Be specific about the delegated assignment. Think the job through, step by step. Clearly define the end product – exactly what results do you want? What standards will it take to ensure your satisfaction? What options are available to employee, e.g., creativity, different tactics? What are the deadlines? Will you delegate the whole project (advisable) so that the employee can take pride and have a sense of ownership? 2. Choose the right person. Person has the right skills, interest, and time. Person would benefit by developing in this direction. Person will be challenged and stretched, but not unduly taxed. 3. Express confidence in the person.
