Oracle Navigation

This document defines the basics of Oracle navigation. Logging on: If you are opening the application for the first time on your computer, it will prompt you to download an application called jInitiator. Follow the prompts to load the application. Once loaded, you will see the screen below. You must log on using you user name. If you do know your user name, contact your IT department. You should have been provided a password from your IT department. Use it in this form. You will then be prompted to enter a new password. Your new password must be at least 6 characters, include a number and have no repeating characters. Menu: Once logged on, you should see a menu screen similar to the one below. Guidelines: “+” indicates higher level menu  Buttons to the left collapse and expand your menus  Frequent used Functions can be added to the Top Ten List  Set Screen Resolution 1024 x 768 

At the top of your Oracle Application window, you will find a toolbar. Below is the definition of each of the icons.

                  

1. The New icon opens a new record. 2. The Find... icon invokes the Find window. 3. The Show Navigator icon invokes the Navigator window. 4. The Save icon saves your data. 5. The Next Step icon advances you to the next step of a process (see Launch Business Processes). 6. The Switch Responsibilities icon invokes the list of your responsibilities for you to choose another. 7. The Print... icon prints the current screen. In some cases it may print a report associated with the current data. 8. The Close Form icons closes all windows of the current form. 9. The Cut icon cuts the current selection to the clipboard. 10. The Copy icon copies the current selection to the clipboard. 11. The Paste icon pastes from the clipboard into the current field. 12. The Clear Record icon erases the current record from the form. 13. The Delete icon deletes the current record from the database. 14. The Edit Field... icon displays the Editor window for the current field. 15. The Zoom icon invokes customer-defined drill-down behavior. 16. The Translations... icon invokes the Translations window (see Creating Translations for a Record). 17. The Attachments icon invokes the Attachments window. If attachments already exist, the icon appears as a paperclip holding paper. 18. The Folder Tools icon invokes the Folder Tools palette window (see Customizing the Presentation of Data). 19. The Window Help icon invokes online help for the current window.

Oracle’s user interface is presented in Oracle Forms. The general description and definition of those forms is found below. The Forms: 1. Single-Row Block 2. Multi-Row Block 3. Folder Indicator 4. Keyboard Shortcuts: You need not use a mouse to navigate the screens. Oracle provides Keyboard Shortcuts for navigation. From your HELP pull down menu, you can access the KEYBOARD HELP screen. The screen is shown to the left. It displays all the keyboard shortcuts available in Oracle. Some of the most useful ones are: Commit Duplicate Field

Ctrl+S (this will save your data) Shift+F5 (this copies the data from the record field above)

Duplicate Record Shift+F6 (this copies the data from the record above) Enter Query

F11 (starts a DB query)

Execute Query

Cntl+F11 (runs a DB query)
