What do you do when you have PCs behind a Netgear router and you plan to use dPop? This document will go over the process of setting up dPop Direct Connect on your PCs, your Netgear router, and give you information on the terms and concepts used within this process.

A few things you’ll need before we start: • • •

So you’ve gotten through the wizard!

Figure 1 shows a standard network LAN configuration with a Netgear router. Please note that this is not the only configuration possible, but it is merely to be used as an example here.

In order to start the dPop Direct Connect setup process, we’ll need to get some information from your router. First open your web browser and type the address of the router, which should be 192.168.0.1, then hit enter. See Figure 2

Notes: You will not need to put a www in front of the router’s address in your browser. Also the Netgear factory default address for all their routers is 192.168.0.1, if your router has been configured differently, you will need to input the correct router address. For more information on this please review page.

Once you’ve entered the address of the router into your web browser it should come up with a screen asking for a password, Windows users will see Figure 3.

When this screen comes up, you will need to input a password. If you have not changed your router’s password simply type ‘admin’ (without quotes) into the User name text area. Next type ‘password’ (without quotes) in the Password text area.

Notes: The default Netgear User name is admin for their WGR614 router. The default password is password.

Once you login you should see a screen shown in Figure 4 (please note that some options on the screen may be different depending on your configuration).

Now that we’ve got the Netgear router configuration screen up, we can get the information we need to continue with the wizard. At the left click on Status (red arrow in Figure 4), and it should bring you to the window shown in Figure 5.

In Figure 5, there should be two areas, LAN port and Internet Port. The number we need to finish the router setup on this PC is the Internet Port IP Address (red arrow in Figure 5). Take note of this address then input it into the wizard, but DO NOT CLOSE THIS OR THE ROUTER CONFIGURATION WINDOW YET! There are still a few more steps you’ll need to take.

Once the wizard completes you’ll need to input the blank floppy, and create the environmental disk. Next you will take the disk to additional PCs on your network, and once done, a screen will pop up with information needed for the router. You can either print this out, or write it down, but it is important that you have that information at hand.

Please stop here, keep this window open and continue with the wizard as outlined above. When completed, come back to this document.

Now let’s go back to the router configuration window at Figure 4.

Home Stretch

We’re almost setup! On the top bar of the Netgear router configuration window click on Port Forwarding (yellow arrow in Figure 4).

Please reference your settings you printed out or wrote down earlier and go through this process for each line or PC.

1. Click on the Add Custom Service button in Figure 6, a new window should appear, see Figure 7 2. Port Boxes – These are the port ranges to be used for each PC. It is important that you use the same port range for the same IP listed, so if 192.168.0.100 has a port range of 1150-1171 on the printout, then you must make sure these two items are on the same line on this screen. 3. IP Address – This is the IP Address used by the same port range used above.

4. Enter a name for this, such as dPop, dPop2, dPop3, etc. 5. Click apply. 6. Repeat this process for all PC’s or IP addresses you have.

Once you’ve inputted the information above, dPop Direct Connect has been setup!
