The nervous system is a physically connected network of cells, tissues, and organs that controls thoughts, movements, and simpler life processes such as swallowing.
How the CNS and PNS work together.
The Central Nervous System The central nervous system (CNS) includes the brainstem, spinal cord, and the cerebrum. The cerebrum interprets signals from your body and forms a response. The spinal cord delivers the signals, and the brainstem controls life sustaining processes.

Peripheral Nervous System
The peripheral nervous system (PNS) is made up of the somatic nervous system and autonomic nervous system. The autonomic nervous system is made up of two parts the sympathetic nervous system and the parasympathetic nervous system. The somatic nervous system is what controls or allows all voluntary movements or reactions. The autonomic nervous allows or controls all involuntary movements. The sympathetic nervous system is what excites your body and allows your body to start rushing the blood trough out your body, and the parasympathetic nervous system allows you to calm down and slowdown the blood pressure so that you may relax.
The Autonomic Nervous System The autonomic nervous system is the part the PNS that control automatic reactions that you are un aware of. The autonomic nervous system has 2 subdivisions known as the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system.
The Sympathetic and Parasympathetic Nervous system
The sympathetic nervous system excites the body and activates the “fight or fright” operation which means it raises the heart beat. The parasympathetic nervous system calms and soothes the body. It calms the body by lowering the blood pressure and heart rate so you can relax your body
