Let's play the game for what it's worth ... Coward N. NAPOLEON Kosintsev I.G. (14.09.2009) Hello chess players! When I play Grand chess (100-cell variation) [1] I think always about other more realistic for 19th century chess variation with wide strategic and tactical possibilities but at the same time enough simple to catch it at own head without diagrams cause its regularity. Let me introduce the new chess variation titled Napoleon and unoccupied yet by Artificial Intelligence. The initial position at Grand chess with the 10x10 board is follows. White: King e2; Queen d2; Marshall (moves as both a rook and a knight) f2; Cardinal (moves as both a bishop and a knight) g2; Rook a1, j1; Bishop c2, h2; Knight b2, i2; Pawn a3, b3, c3, d3, e3, f3, g3, h3, i3, j3. Black: King e9; Queen d9; Marshall (moves as both a rook and a knight) f9; Cardinal (moves as both a bishop and a knight) g9; Rook a10, j10; Bishop c9, h9; Knight b9, i9; Pawn a8, b8, c8, d8, e8, f8, g8, h8, i8, j8. The initial (in agree with etiquette centre-symmetrical) position at the game Napoleon also with the 10x10 board is follows. White: King e1; Queen f1; Marshall (moves as both a rook and a knight) a1, j1; Cardinal (moves as both a bishop and a knight) c1, h1; Rook b1, i1; Bishop d1, g1; Knight a2, b2, c2, d2, e2, f2, g2, h2, i2, j2; Pawn a3, b3, c3, d3, e3, f3, g3, h3, i3, j3. Black: King f10; Queen e10; Marshall (moves as both a rook and a knight) a10, j10;
Cardinal (moves as both a bishop and a knight) c10, h10; Rook b10, i10; Bishop d10, g10; Knight a9, b9, c9, d9, e9, f9, g9, h9, i9, j9; Pawn a8, b8, c8, d8, e8, f8, g8, h8, i8, j8. The game Napoleon has the transformed castles (three moves at once) similar to classical 64-cell chess: short castle for white R b1-d1, M a1-c1, K e1-b1 and for black R i10-g10, M j10-h10, K f10-i10; long castle for white R i1-f1, M j1-g1, K e1-h1 and for black R b10-e10, M a10-d10, K f10-c10. This nuance is a principal advantage of the game Napoleon over Grand chess. (The castle at chess is a canonical idea from the theory of bifurcations.) Other rules of game Napoleon is identical with rules of Grand chess [2]. There is also a similar 100-cell chess variation with white and black rajas instead konigs: the game Maharaja or simly Raja. The raja moves as both a queen and a knight. All intellectualy unsatisfied chess players can study the more complex chess variations described at my article "Polygon" [3].
