June 2009

Our First Children! Arturo (6) was brought to us on Mother’s Day by the police who said that his father had been drunk for a month and hadn’t been caring for him. His mother has some mental problems and has trouble caring for him as well, so the local mayor sent him to us for an indefinite time. Arturo told us that he thought the police had made a mistake and brought him to the wrong house, but he didn’t seem to mind at all. He settled in very well to a stable home life and showed amazing improvement in behavior and getting along with other children. He was only with us for a week, as his father quickly sobered up and the mayor gave the parents permission to take him back. We have been hearing very good comments in town from people who noted the changes in Arturo and attribute them to the good care he received while in the Children’s Home.

Daniel (9 months) arrived on June 9th. His mother brought him and explained that she was going through treatment for depression in a Christian rehabilitation center and she needed us to watch the baby while she is there. It was an extremely difficult decision for her and she went away very sad. She has good people supporting her in the center, so we trust that she will recover quickly and will get her life back on track. Daniel is a very cheerful, content baby and is a ray of sunshine in the home.

Julio (7) was brought to us by the police on June 9th as well. He was taken out of a problematic family situation, and arrived to us scared, mad, and completely noncooperative. Within a week of working with him, praying for him, and loving him he transformed into an

affectionate, happy, cooperative child and we are amazed at how intelligent he is for his age. He still has many moments of sadness and anger but the Julio of last week is not anything like the Julio of this week, and we see a very bright future for this young boy.

Giving Opportunities With the arrival of these children to the Children’s Home we are now looking at covering the operating expenses of the Children’s Home. Some building work is yet to be finished but this work is covered by the offerings we have received over the last few months. Now our focus is changing to the actual care of the children in the home. Giving may be done in the same way as in the past, through Good Measure International, and you can rest assured that all donations are used to care for the needs of these precious children. Thank you for your generosity.

Meet our Doctor and Accountant We are blessed to have a great team of professionals working with us. Let me introduce two of them to you. Dr. Cynthia Amezquita Ayon (more commonly known as Mily) is our medical professional. She has offered her services to us free of charge and has a wonderful way with the children. She lives in another town, but comes here on the week-ends and is available for telephone-consultancies at any time. She performs an immediate checkup when each new child arrives to the home as well as a monthly medical checkup on all of our children. C.P.A. Martin Brackamontes is the financial accountant for the home. He has offered his services at a reduced rate and is well acquainted with financial procedures for non-profit organizations. We are confident that our accounting is in very competent hands.
