1MAT 0990 Syllabus Fall 2008 INSTRUCTOR: R. Terry Sproat TEXT:

EMAIL: [email protected]

Elementary Algebra: Michael Sullivan, III / Katherine R. Struve (excluding sections 6.7, 7.5, 8.7 and all of chapter 10)

HOMEWORK: Homework is the personal responsibility of the student. It is necessary to complete all homework assignments to master the concepts of the course. Homework for each chapter will be due the class day following the last discussion of the chapter. Since the answers are provided to all homework problems, the student's own work must be shown. A homework problem for which the student’s work is not shown will receive a zero. Homework turned in at any other time will be considered late. Late homework will be worth 50% if it is one class day late. Homework more than one day late will not be accepted, unless prior arrangements have been made. One homework score will be dropped. DAILY QUIZ:

There will be a short quiz every day (or nearly), except on chapter test days. Its intent is to sharpen your focus, and to encourage daily attendance. Two daily quiz scores will be dropped.

TESTS:

Tests will be given at the end of each chapter as outlined in the schedule. Tests are NOT open book or open note. The lowest chapter test score will be dropped. If you do not take a test during the scheduled time, you will receive a 0 for that test. Makeup tests will be considered case-by-case, depending on the emergency.

FINAL:

The final will be a two hour, comprehensive test given in class at the time listed in the course catalog. The catalog lists the only exceptions allowed. The final will NOT be dropped.
