GOVERNMENT GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINSTRY OF CIVIL AVIATION MONTHLY SUMMARY FOR THE CABINET FOR THE MONTH OF MAY,2009 ((i)

Establishment of Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA):The Airports Economic Regulatory Authority has been established with effect from 12.05.2009.

(ii)

Minister of State(Independent Charge) for Civil Aviation:Shri Praful Patel was sworn in as Minister of State for Civil Aviation (Independent Charge) on 28.05.2009 by the President of India .

(iii)

Dedicated Satellite Communication Network (DSCN):The Status of total DSCN project implementation as on date is as under:Total sites – 80 Antenna installation completed – 74 sites Physical equipment installation completed – 74 sites Acceptance Test Procedure completed – 45 sites. Operationalized – 16

DSCN network has been commissioned w.e.f. 02/03/2009 and16 stations have been made operational in the 1st phase. (iv)

Profits earned by Public Sector Enterprises (PSEs) under the Ministry of Civil Aviation –

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has earned a profit after tax of Rs.48.25 crores during May, 2009.

(v) Report of the Attached/ Sub-ordinate offices under the Ministry of Civil Aviation – (a) Office of Directorate General of Civil Aviation: During the month of May there was no notifiable accident and serious incident.

(b)

Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS):

(i)

During the month under report, BCAS officers conducted 16 dummy checks. Besides, the Bomb Disposal Squad and Dog Squad carried out 181 random search of terminal buildings and vital installations at Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata.

(ii)

The BCAS Training Faculty has organized 11 X-ray Screeners Tests, 07 Basic Aviation Security Courses and 1 Class on Improvised Explosive Device (IED) for IB at various places in India.

(c)

Commission of Railway Safety (CRS):

During the month under report, the Commission of Railway Safety has taken up statutory inquiry into the following rail incidents:(a) Dashing of 9167 Up unmanned level crossing between stations Chachura-Binaganj on Guna-Maksi section of Bhopal Division of West Central Railway on 6.5.2009. As a result of accident there were cases of three injuries with no fatality. (b) Unusual Occurrence of N 4Up Local train between Shahad – Kalyan stations on Kasara-Kalyan section of Mumbai Division of Central Railway on 12.5.2009. As a result of accident there were cases of Eight injuries with no fatality
