1.Introduction The full process for the installation of a SNOASIS server has never been crystal clear throughout the impacted implementation teams: ITOC technical / project management teams and market requestors. Therefore, we decided to streamline the process and put it on paper so that all impacted people are informed about the full process and the roles of each participant. The goal of this document is to clarify the process and provide some guidelines.

3.Step 1: Discussion with the market In the SNOASIS architecture, it is of utmost importance that ITOC (as Service Provider) and the Market (as customer) are thoroughly discussing the solution before starting its implementation. These discussions should include at least the following items: •

Is this installation part of a migration project from the legacy environment? If yes, chances are that there already exists a Citrix farm in the legacy environment of the Market. Then, this legacy farm should be inventoried: o

Which version of Metaframe is running?

o

Is the host OS Windows 2000?

o

How many servers are currently hosting the application?

The ideal situation is when you have to migrate an existing server running Metaframe 1.0 XP on top of Windows 2000, because this guarantees that the application is compatible. So, no major issues are to be expected during the migration. •

Is the application certified by the vendor for MetaFrame usage?

How many licenses are needed? As the server will host market application(s), the user licenses have to be bought and provided by the Markets. ITOC will add these licenses in the farm pool and will act proactively to make sure that the market never runs out of its own licenses. Remember that licenses are for concurrent users, so the number of users accessing the application concurrently is to be calculated/forecasted.

In the site where the server will reside, there should be two dedicated shares 1 for SNOASIS: o

One share will hold the TS profiles of the users (not big).

o

One share will hold the SNOASIS build sources (approx 4 GB).

Planning: the overall installation plan should be looked at to make sure that impacted resources are available when the implementation is due to take place.

Any other item related with the SNOASIS framework.

As you can see in the chart, these discussions will be held between the Market and the Citrix Specialists of the Platform Services department.

4.Step 2: Oasis 2226 level-1 installation Once the discussion has taken place, it is time for the actual installation of the server. As for any other server, the Market does the installation of Oasis level 1. This is documented in the following procedure: Oasis2-2226 First Level Installation.

5.Step 3: Market opens a RM ticket Once the level-1 part of Oasis is installed on the server, the Market opens a RM ticket for the attention of Deployment team (EUR_W2K_Deployment), explicitly requesting the server to be joined to nestle.com and the installation of the SNOASIS layer.

These shares may reside on any Oasis file server.

6.Step 4: Oasis 2226 level-2 installation This step is the actual addition of the server to the nestle.com domain, along with the additional tasks like backup set-up, …. This is a well-known procedure that is carried out by the Deployment team.

7.Step 5: SNOASIS layer installation This is the installation of Citrix MetaFrame XP and the Gold/Gold+ layers. The Deployment team performs this step by following this procedure: M_04_SNOASIS Installation Guide.doc. Once the SNOASIS layer has been installed on the server, the Deployment team assigns the RM ticket to the Citrix Specialists of Platform Services.

8.Step 6: Integration of the server into the farm The server is then integrated into the Citrix farm and appropriate settings (like zoning, data collector, load evaluator, …) are configured. The Citrix Specialists of Platform Services department perform this task. When this step is completed, the server is considered as SNOASIS server and is signed off.

9.Step 7: Application installation The Market has to be aware that they bear the responsibility of the application on the server, during its full lifecycle: test, validation, installation, release management, re-installation. It is clear that in case a server has to be rebuilt from scratch, ITOC will only take care of the Oasis and SNOASIS layers. Then it’s the Market’s responsibility to install the application again. Therefore we highly insist that Markets document the procedure to install the application. Once the Market has finished to install the application(s), it opens a RM ticket to the Technical team in ITOC for the publication of the application in the Citrix farm.

10.Step 8: Group creation and application publication As publishing application is done via group membership, the corresponding Active Directory groups are created. Standard Globe naming conventions are applied: CC: CTX ApplicationName Later this group will contain all users allowed to start the application from the SNOASIS server. Once the AD group(s) has been created, the application can be published in the Citrix farm. When finished, the Market is informed that the applications have been published and, if applicable, that the groups have been created. At that time, the RM ticket can be resolved. Note that there exists a template “Request for Citrix application publishing.dot” to fill and attach to the RM ticket to make sure that all the information needed for the publication is provided.
