CONCLUSION  WHY VOTE NO? The vote in this referendum is not about being for or against Europe or indeed about being in or out of Europe, it’s about the type of Europe you want to see succeed. The Brussels bureaucracy didn’t have its accounts signed off for 13 years and yet there are those who advocate giving them more control over our economy while surrendering significant power that we can never get back. Because we have no way of predicting how the European Court will rule in future, the best way to secure Ireland’s tax position and to maximise our leverage in negotiations is to vote No.

THE LISBON TREATY • Gives exclusive competence to Brussels over International Trade & Foreign Direct Investment (Article 206/207 TFEU*)

• Halves Ireland’s voting weight while doubling that of Germany (Article 238 TFEU).

During Lisbon Treaty negotiations, our government sought but failed to keep the current voting system negotiated under the Nice Treaty because they know our voice is diminished under Lisbon.

• Opens the door to interference in tax & other key economic interests (Article 113 TFEU) • Creates an unelected President & a Foreign Minister of Europe (Article 27 TEU+) • Hands over power in 60 areas of policy to Brussels - on everything from transport to employment and some aspects of foreign policy • Enshrines EU law as superior to Irish law. • The Treaty can be changed without another referendum (Article 352 TFEU, Article 48 TEU) • Diminishes Ireland's power to nominate our European Commissioner Changes from 'nominate' to 'suggest' * Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union + Treaty on the European Union
