FUNCTIONS: z Main centre for control of autonomic functions of brain. E.g. change in B.P, heart rate can be induced by its stimulation. z Important role in emotions, fear and motivation. z Involved in behavioral aspects of hunger and sex. z Concerned with olfaction and memory. Note: It shows prolong after discharge for stimulation. EMOTION: Two components: mental and physical Mental: Cognition Affect Conation PHYSICAL: Fear Grief Hypothalamus and limbic system are concerned with genesis of emotions. Limbic system participates in integration of the activity where emotion is expressed. Limbic system plays an important role in determining sexual behavior.
