Like Father, Like Son (John 5:17-23, 36-42, 46-47) Jesus is the Son of God John the Baptist identified Jesus as the “Son of God” God Himself testified that Jesus was His son (Matt. 3:17; John 1:32-34) The Scriptures testify about Jesus (John 5:39) Jesus described God as His Father (John 5:19-20, 30;14:12) Even Satan sought to tempt based on the premise that He was the Son of God (Matt. 3:3-6) God the Father and Jesus, are one (John 1:1; 10:30) heis {hice}Gk. = one God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) is still at work (John 5:17-23; 1 Cor. 12:6) ergazomai {er-gad'-zom-ahee}Gk. = characteristic work, labor, business, cause, commitment All that exists, exists according to His will, power and grace. Jesus finish the work necessary for our salvation ergon {er'-gon}Gk. work, task, mission Jesus reveals the heart and the ways of God (Matt. 11:27) “Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou [then], Shew us the Father?” (John 14:9) “Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.” (John 14:10) God (Father and Son) give life to whom He chooses (John 5:21; 11:25; 17:2-3; Deut. 32:39; ) Jesus is our judge (John 5:27; Matt. 25:31; Acts 10:42; 17:31; 2 Cor. 5:10; 2 Tim. 4:1; 1 Pe. 4:5; Rev. 20:12 Jesus left this earth as our savior, he will return as our judge
“The One who judges us most finally is the One who loves us most fully.” (Bueckner). We need not be concerned with ay other opinion George Will writes in Men at Work: “Baseball umpires are carved from granite and stuffed with microchips...they are professional dispensers of pure justice. Once when Babe Pinelli called Babe Ruth out on strikes, Ruth made a populist argument. Ruth reasoned fallaciously (as populists do) from raw numbers to moral weight: ‘There’s 40,000 people here who know that last one was a ball, tomato head.’” "Pinelli replied with the measured stateliness of John Marshall: ‘Maybe so, but mine is the only opinion that counts.’” Have you ever considered how much your accomplishments are worth? What success have you made of the number of years and the resources God has given you? What is God’s standard? Remember that after watching a woman putting two small copper coins in the treasury box, Jesus remarked that she had given more than all the great sums the wealthy people put in. So it would appear that His standard is about how generously, trustingly, faithfully we use the time, talents and resources that God has given us towards the furtherance of Kingdom interests. We must honor Jesus Confessing Jesus as Lord is the only way to glorify the Father (John 1:14)
deny me in heaven.”
“Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is (Matt. 10:32-33)
Anyone who does not honor the Son (Jesus), does not Honor God (John 5:23) Loving God is the first and most important commandment Bible study alone is insufficient for salvation To have the Word in us, we must first believe in Jesus (John 5:38) It must lead to trusting, honoring and obeying Jesus
