Rishi Garg Mr. Swan U.S. History, 7th Period 29 October 2007 Letter to the Public Hello, public. I have been commissioned to explain the progress of the war to you. Britain has put up an exceptionally good fight and I believe that we are winning. The troops’ morale was extremely high all throughout this year. Everyone was eager to fight, and not just Britain. All the major countries of Europe were ready to battle, because they had not had a war for many years. The war started with the Germans invading Belgium on August 4th. Those scoundrels were trying to get to France. Seeing as how France is our ally, we naturally had to help. Our own British Expeditionary Force (BEP) met the Germans in Belgium on August 23rd. We gave them a tough time, and they did not progress any further. Also, on August 20th, France tried to counter-attack Germany with an invasion through Alsace-Lorraine. However, they lost, the poor souls. But then to our surprise, Russia attacked Germany! Germany was forced to remove 100,000 troops from Belgium and move them to the Russian front, so that they would not be overwhelmed. At the Battle of Ypres, we lost half as many soldiers as the Germans did. Their Schlieffen plan completely failed. We seem to have the Germans under control. Although the war doesn’t seem to be going anywhere, I trust

that it will be over by the end of next year, with a grand victory for the Triple Entente.
