Len Allison Is The First Winner

Len Allison is the first winner, with Wolfgang Puck and James Beard, of what is now the James Beard Award. He owns Blue Bamboo Acupuncture Center in Wailuku and Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii. He is the father of two and was married to the late Karen Allison. They owned restaurants together in New York City, including the famed Hubert’s. Karen wrote one of the first American vegetarian cookbooks. Len used to be a professor at Culinary Institute of America. Not exactly the way I described it. The erotic poetry is probably more sensual than fully erotic. The first hundred or so poems are mainly in time zone of the speakers life. However there begins to be several time zones interweaving with one another, implying possible several lives lived by the narrator. He may have been LaPerouse, Billy Bones, Vermeer, a mythical Hawaiian voyager, AHawaiian god, a Hawaiin king, etc. UI am trying to present HAWAIIAN LIFE as I believe it was with rape, sacrifice and cannibalism as essential to the survival of this life not primitive cruelties. One possible thought is all this might go into section at the end of the book Called something to reflect a myth created to describe the inner life of Polynesian voyagers who became the original Hawaiians.
