Important concepts • Leadership: (TRAIT, QUALITY) Leadership is a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal • Leader: leaders are the ones who have the quality of leadership in them • Manager: Managers supervise staff in the day-to-day operations of an organization.

Types of Knowledge a leader entails • Tacit knowledge: Knowledge which draws on the accumulated experience and learning of a person • Explicit knowledge: Explicit knowledge is used in the design of routines, standard operation procedures, and the structure of data records.

Individual and Social Capital Individual capital: A persons own tacit and explicit knowledge Organizational capital: When many persons share their tacit and explicit knowledge with organization it becomes organizational capital

Attributes Of Leader 1. Strategic visionary: • Should have a Clear vision • Should be able to translate Vision-strategyinto reality • The leader should be more visionary (directional) so that the employees can understand the strategy.

2. Motivators: Leader should be a source of motivation for the employees: Motivation can be provided in following ways: Giving support Encouraging others Praising Rewarding Positive reinforcement

• Shadowing – Allows an individual to observe a leader closely.

• Coaching – Learner gets feedback and guidance from the leader

• Mentoring – Mentor and mentee meets regularly and discuss strategies that mentee may apply
