L.C.M L.C.M is the least common multiple of two or more than two numbers.
EXAMPLE • • • •
Eg: Multiple of 6= 6,12,18,24,36,42,48…. Multiple of 8= 8,16,24,32,48,56…… The most common multiples are 24, 48 • The least common multiple is 24. • L.C.M OF 6 & 8 IS 24.
METHODS • There are three methods to find out L.C.M • By finding out multiples of given numbers just stated in the previous slide.
SECOND METHOD BY PRIME FACTORIZATION • L.C.M of 32, 48 • Prime factors of 32 = 2*2*2*2*2 = 25 • Prime factors of 48 = 2*2*2*2*3 = 24*3 • Here prime factors are 2,3 and there highest powers are 5,1 • L.C.M = 25 * 31 • = 32 * 3 = 96
THIRD METHOD BY COMMON DIVISION • In this method we place the number in one row and than find the lowest prime factor which can divide at least one of these numbers we divide the all numbers which can be divided by this prime number and write down the quotient below that have than again we repeat this until we get one in all place.
EXAMPLE • To find the L.C.M of 25, 40, 50, 60 2 2
25, 40, 50, 60 25, 20, 25, 30
2
25, 10, 25, 15
3
25, 5, 25, 5
5 5
5, 1, 5, 1 1, 1, 1, 1
L.C.M OF 25, 40, 50, 60 • L.C.M = 2*2*2*3*5*5 = 600
