What it Means to Know God (Jer. 22:13-17, 21-23) The Heart that Knows God We are called to love God whole-heartedly (2 Kings 23:25) To do what is right and just, to defend the cause of the poor and needy is what it means to know God (Jer. 22:15-16) We are called to seek justice (Ps. 82:3, Prov. 31:9, Jer. 21:12, 22:3, Micah 6:8) Failing to do so risks coming under judgment ourselves If you know God in this way, it will go well with you (Rom. 8:33-35, you will have the peace of a good conscience) Hospitality is about having a welcoming heart (Rom. 12:9-13, 1 Tim. 3:2, Titus 1:8) Our mercy and generosity help to cleanse our hearts and preserve our lives (Prov. 20:28, Luke 11:41) We can know God the Father by knowing his Son (John 8:19) To know God is the key to eternal life (John 17:3) The Heart that Does Not Know God Beware of covetousness (Luke 12:15, Rom. 7:7, 1 Cor. 6:10, Eph. 5:3-5, 1 Tim. 6:9-10, Heb. 13:5) Covetous = Materialistic? Covetousness = Idolatry (Col. 3:5) A covetous heart will lead a person to cheat and use others (Jer. 6:13, 2 Pe. 2:3, Contrast: Prov. 21:26, Phil 2:4) What are your eyes and your heart set upon? (Jer. 22:17) The desires of our heart are influenced by what we view with our eyes (Jos. 7:21, Job 31:7, 2 Pe. 2:14) The company we keep affects the desires of our heart (Ezek. 19:6, 1 Cor. 5:11) Our works demonstrate whether or not we truly know God (Titus 1:16, 1 John 2:3)
