What is Presentation Software? • A presentation software is a computer software package used to display information, normally in the form of a slide show. It typically includes three major functions: an editor that allows text to be inserted and formatted, a method for inserting and manipulating graphic images and a slide-show system to display the content.
• The most commonly known presentation software is Microsoft PowerPoint, although there are alternatives such as Openoffice.org Impress and Apple's Keynote. Adobe Acrobat is also a (less) popular tool for presentation which can be used to easily link other presentations of whatever kind. • Another kind of presentation software are Mind Map programs which may be convenient to adapt a presentation dependent upon the reaction of the audience. It is based on a similar hierarchical tree but the tree can be explored, accessed and developed at each node according to the presenter's talk. They offer printings of any sub tree and also include the faculty of move and zoom. Its typical use is for lectures.
Some examples of Presentation Software…
Microsoft PowerPoint • Microsoft PowerPoint is a proprietary presentation software developed by Microsoft. It is part of the Microsoft Office system, and runs on Microsoft Windows and the Mac OS computer operating systems. • PowerPoint is widely used by business people, educators, students, and trainers. The current versions are Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 for Windows and 2008 for Mac.

PowerPoint presentations consist a number of individual pages or "slides". The "slide" analogy is a reference to the slide projector, a device that has become somewhat obsolete due to the use of PowerPoint and other presentation software. Slides may contain text, graphics, movies, and other objects, which may be arranged freely on the slide. PowerPoint, however, facilitates the use of a consistent style in a presentation using a template or "Slide Master". The presentation can be printed or displayed live on a computer and navigated through at the command of the presenter. For larger audiences the computer display is often projected using a video projector. Slides can also form the basis of webcasts. PowerPoint provides three types of movements:

Entrance, emphasis, and exit of elements on a slide itself are controlled by what PowerPoint calls Custom Animations Transitions, on the other hand are movements between slides. These can be animated in a variety of ways Custom animation can be used to create small story boards by animating pictures to enter, exit or move
With callouts, speech bubbles with edited text can be sent on and off to create speech. The overall design of a presentation can be controlled with a master slide; and the overall structure, extending to the text on each slide, can be edited using a primitive outliner. Presentations can be saved and run in any of the file formats: the default .ppt (presentation), .pps (PowerPoint Show) or .pot (template). In PowerPoint 2007 and Mac OS X 2008 versions, the XML-based file formats .pptx, .ppsx, .potx have been introduced, along with the macro-enabled file formats .pptm, .potm, .ppsm.
OpenOffice.org Impress • OpenOffice.org Impress, a part of the OpenOffice.org office suite and developed by Sun Microsystems, is a presentation software similar to Microsoft PowerPoint. In addition to being able to create PDF files from presentations, it is also able to export presentations to SWF files allowing them to be played on any computer with a Flash player installed. It is able to view, edit and save files in several file formats, including the .ppt format, which is used by Microsoft PowerPoint. • The program lacks ready-made presentation designs, although third-party templates are readily available on the Internet. An advantage that Impress has over PowerPoint is that it is distributed under an open source license and so is freely available for download without charge. • OpenOffice.org Impress users can install the Open Clip Art Library, which adds a large gallery of images for general presentation and drawing projects. Linux distributions Debian, Gentoo, Mandriva and Ubuntu have provided the ready-to-use open clipart package

Apple’s Keynote • A keynote in literature, music or public speaking is the principal underlying theme. In the corporate or commercial environment of the UK and Europe, greater importance is attached to the delivery of a keynote speech or keynote address. The keynote will lay down the framework for the following programmed of events or convention agenda, frequently the role of keynote speaker will also include the role of convention moderator. It will also flag up a larger idea — a literary story, an individual musical piece or event. • At political or industrial conventions and expositions and at academic conferences, the keynote address or keynote speech is delivered to set the underlying tone and summarize the core message or most important revelation of the event. Some of the more famous keynote speeches in the United States are those at the party conventions during Democratic and Republican presidential campaigns. Keynote speakers at these events have often gained nationwide fame (or notoriety), and have occasionally influenced the course of the election; for example, Barack Obama at the 2004 Democratic National Convention.
• Keynote speeches are also given at the graduation and commencement ceremonies of colleges, universities, and major high schools, usually by accomplished academics or celebrities invited by the student body. • Keynote speakers are often selected to raise interest in a particular event, such as a conference or large meeting sponsored by a corporation or association, and draw attendees to attend that program. Selecting a keynote speaker who is well known for his or her expertise in a particular field, or who has wide name recognition due to other accomplishments, will likely raise enthusiasm among prospective attendees for a meeting or conference. • Typically a keynote presenter speaks for anywhere from 45 to 60 minutes. Although many speakers are honored to attend the event and may earn publicity in their own right for their presentation, for larger or corporate sponsored events, an honorarium or speakers fee is generally paid.
