iPad Activity Rhetorical Brainstorm Activity 1. Please open iBooks or Stanza (whichever you prefer) and choose one text from the following: i. Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare ii. Ode to a Grecian Urn by John Keats iii. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee iv. The Stranger by Albert Camus v. Antigone by Sophocles 2. Based on the work you chose, refer to one passage from the text that you would like to analyze. 3. You may annotate the text using Annotate by LineBreak, if it is easier for you to keep track of your notes. 4. Choose one literary device that you would like to focus on. It can be any device we have learned in class. If you would like to focus on more than one, you may be free to do so, but choose no more than three devices. 5. Open IdeaSketch or SimpleMind+ Mind Mapping (whichever you prefer). 6. Copy the passage you would like to analyze and paste it in the middle of your mind-map. 7. The rhetorical devices that you choose to analyze will be your branches. 8. Also include branches for either ethos, logos, and pathos. You do not have to choose all three. 9. With each branch, list your ideas on how you plan to analyze the passage using the literary devices. If you annotated your passage in the iBooks, Stanza, or Annotate apps, feel free to copy and paste those notes onto your mind-map! 10. Once you have finished, screenshot your mind-map (it may require several screenshots to capture the entire thing), email it to me by the end of class. NOTE: This is a brainstorming activity, so feel free to be as creative as possible. This is to allow you all to keep track of your ideas as we will be using these as outlines for your essay. Grammar, formal essay structure, and citations will not be graded (however, I would keep track of the page/line numbers for reference)! Do not limit yourself to what is instructed; I encourage you to think outside the box! Add more topics/branches if you want to! Scoring Guide 1. Chooses a passage from one of the listed works. 2. Listed rhetorical device(s) of interest as well as either ethos, logos, and pathos on mind-map. 3. Has at least 2 (or more) ideas of analysis for each branch in the mind-map. 4. Assignment instructions were followed through and turned in on time. TOTAL
