OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
To trace out the genesis and concept of priority sector lending.
To make an assessment of the Co operative banking developments in the Ranga Reddy District.
To review the performance of implementation of priority sector lending scheme.
To examine whether the banks have met the objectives and targets related to priority sector lending.
To analyse the credit utilisation pattern by the borrowers.
To enquire into the nature of repayment of loans and to identify the major problems involved.
To evaluate the impact of priority sector credit on the income and employment levels of the borrowers.
To identify the problems and difficulties experienced by banks and borrowers in the implementation of the scheme.
To offer suggestions on the basis of the findings and conclusions of the study, so that deficiencies and shortcomings can be rectified.
DATABASE AND METHODOLOGY
The study will be conducted in two stages.
In the first stage, primary data will be collected through field survey through questionnaires and Interviews.
In the second stage required data is collected from government publications, RBI Bulletins, statistical returns, information from related websites, etc.
The data thus generated through the above two stages will be analysed with statistical tools like mean, standard deviation, percentage, correlation, Regression, chi- square, other non parametric tests etc.
NEED FOR THE STUDY
The regional imbalances affect the banking habits of people and the programmes which have been introduced by banks concerned. Due to the variations in the opinions among the people it becomes essential to draw a common objective to give a clear ideology about the functioning of the concerned banks and beneificiaries, it is felt necessary to study the problems of both farmers and banks in both areas i.e. financially advanced and backward reasons.
Through the study credit schemes should be thoroughly examined from the point of view of economic viability, repayment capacity infrastructure support to and functional linkages of the purpose of loan with other activities and development programmes, staff required to implement schemes, etc.
Disseminate information through media, literature and other means (local body meetings) about the credit schemes by co operative banks to the beneficiaries.
Eliminating as far as possible the Money lenders who are expensive and
SCOPE OF THE STUDY & SURVEY DESIGN
This study covers the priority sector lending by all primary level co operative banks. Multistage sampling frame work will be used in the survey design. At the first stage, 37mandals and 3 Revenue divisions in Ranga Reddy District of Andhra Pradesh on which the research study is focused.
From each revenue division 100 beneficiaries are selected. Thus the sample size consist of 300 beneficiaries and 50 bank staff. Random sampling techniques will be applied in selecting the respondents. The Beneficiaries include 60 from the agricultural sector, 45 from the SSI sector, 120 from the government- sponsored schemes and 75 from the other sectors.
REFERENCE PERIOD
The study is more qualitative than quantitative. Hence the length of the study is more qualitative than quantitative.
Primarily, detailed analysis of Priority sector will be taken from last five years, i.e., from 200308.
The reference period for the collection of primary data is six months from July to 10 December 2009.
