PART I Important Points in Work Immersion

Introduction Work immersion is a key feature in the Senior High School curriculum and refers to the part of that consists of 80 hours of hands on experience or work simulation which Grades 11 and 12 students will undergo to expose them to the actual workplace setting and to enrich the competencies provided by the school under the supervision of the School Head and the designated personnel of the Partner. Work immersion is the counterpart of the internship programs in the tertiary level. The said learning experience that the students can get from it which can range from 80 hours up will surely enable and help students as they familiarize themselves with the workplace thus experience workplace simulation and apply their competencies in areas of specialization. The completion of work immersion is prerequisite to graduation under the K-12 program. This is a first rate on the part of DepEd, since young people like to explore and connect with the people, this work immersion will provide them to acquire relevant skills by performing in actual work setting. The importance of work immersion must be seen as vital point of giving students a venue to improve themselves through experiencing real stuff first-hand. This is the very highlight of the Senior High School program. It helps students to acquire knowledge and experience that can help them grow as professional individuals Furthermore, this program provides opportunities to go through the actual methodologies of a specific job using the real tools, equipment and documents. In

effect, the workplace becomes a development venue for us student trainee to learn more about their chosen field and practice what we have learn from school. Experience is considered to be one of life’s greatest teachers. As trainees they can use it as an inspiration as they gain expertise in their respective fields. This experience will surely help them not only for their present job as a student but also for their future job as a professional employee of this society. Objectives of a Work Immersion Work immersion will help develop among the learners life and career skills, and will prepare them to make decisions on postsecondary education or employment. Through partnership building, DepEd hopes that the Partner Institutions will provide learners with work immersion opportunities, workplace or hands-on experience, and additional learning resources. It aims to make the learners: 1. appreciate the importance and application of the principles and theories learned in school; 2. enhance their technical knowledge and skills; 3. enrich their skills in communications and human relations; and 4. Develop good work habits, attitudes, appreciation and respect for work. By the time learners reach Senior High School, they would have already acquired almost all the competencies and skills that would prepare them for the curriculum exits (higher education, employment, middle-skills development, and entrepreneurship). Work immersion provides them with an avenue to test them and apply what they have learned in a non-school scenario. In work immersion, learners are not only able to apply their previous training but are also able to experience the social interactions in a work

environment. Their experiences during work immersion will develop many skills and values that would help them as they transition from high school to real life. To assure the achievement of the above objectives of Work Immersion, this policy serves to guide schools in: 1. creating flexible work immersion arrangements for their learners; 2. providing options for work immersion that are relevant to learners’ purposes and needs; 3. organizing work immersion opportunities for learners that are consistent with the diverse human resource requirements of partner institutions for work immersion; and 4. articulating the scope and limits of work immersion in the context of basic education when building relationships with work immersion partners. Values and Attributes of a Student in a Work Immersion Work Immersion is one of the course requirements for graduation. A Senior High School student has to undergo Work Immersion in an industry that directly relates to the student’s post-secondary goal. Through Work Immersion, the students are exposed to and become familiar with work-related environment related to their field of specialization to enhance their competence. Specifically, the students are able to: (i) gain relevant and practical industrial skills under the guidance of industry experts and workers; (ii) appreciate the importance and application of the principles and theories taught in school; (iii) enhance their technical knowledge and skills; (iv) enrich their skills in communications and human relations; and (v) develop good work habits, attitudes, appreciation, and respect for work. These prepare them to meet the needs and challenges of employment or higher education after graduation.

The company’s first branch was in Cebu where the people there are called either Cebuano, for men, and Cebuana, for females. That is the reason why in their logo, they included ‘Cebuana’ through the years. Since Jean Henri Lhuillier is the owner of the company, he then applied his surname and added it to where the branch was first located. Thus, Cebuana

Lhuillier was created because of its first branch location and the also the acknowledgement of the owner by having its surname which is also connected to its parent company, P.J. PART IV

ACTIVITY REPORT

PART V Reflection Problems Encountered Experiencing trials and challenges when accomplishing a goal that is added with some external factors are surely inevitable. However, through all those trials and challenges, there are two major problems that the trainee encountered. These are managing the trainee’s time between school activities and the immersion tasks and the trainee’s confusion before and after the work immersion. Managing both things at a time is truly tiresome as well as challenging. One’s will power is challenged to be maintained enable for a trainee or a student to maintain excellent records. It is as said in Matthew 6:24, "No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other.”This is the trainee’s mindset when experiencing the immersion at the start because the trainee had thought, “What if I can’t handle all these responsibilities? Am I going to prioritize one thing and going despise the other one? If that is the case, then I may not graduate.” On contrary, this mindset has changed. This is because even if the trainee struggles in balancing both elements, the trainee had learned to adjust and discipline herself by balancing and efficiently managing both. The school’s schedule is also one of the elements that the trainee is able to manage her time wisely since after the immersion, the trainee can do her tasks, it may be in the academe or in the immersion portfolio, half a day. Confusion to what should be done and what should be put in an immersion portfolio is also one of the things that the trainee had encountered. Since the trainee is

one of the first batches who are under the K-12 program, there are clearly loopholes when it comes to the new programs that are added. For example, there are parts in the immersion portfolio that students, even their adviser, do not know if the students are the ones to provide the information in that part or not. As a result, there are some delays when making the portfolio. However, this is still forgivable since this is quite normal for if there are changes, there are really delays as well as trials and errors for a program or an agenda to be perfect. Suggestions and Recommendations With all due respect, the trainee humbly suggests two things for the improvement of this work immersion. First, the students and the immersion adviser should be properly oriented and informed to the every detail concerning the work immersion tasks especially the contents of the work immersion portfolio. This is for a reason that there are confusions that are being formed which can cause delays in some aspects just because the students and the adviser do not know what to do with a specific part or task. Second, the trainee would like to suggest that if possible, the work immersion should start as soon as the 2ndsemester starts and there should already be definite assigned companies to students. This is because there are some of the students that started late in the work immersion. That resulted them to be in a difficult position since there is a portfolio to be done and they have lesser time to make it that would result them to cram. These are the two things that the trainee suggests. This is only the trainee’s opinion for the improvement of the work immersion. Also, this is for the good of next batches so that they may not experience the same problems again and again.

APPENDICES Summary of Work Immersion Duty

The trainee’s work immersion duty comprises some of the tasks that involves in the operations of the company. The trainee is tasked in greeting the clients as well as assisting the clients in their form like the Remittance Form and the Customer Information Sheet. Also, if there are events that the Cebuana Lhuillier offers, the trainee is also tasked to cooperate. For example is giving Scratch It coupons to the clients that are qualified in the promo or giving freebies to clients if the supervisor says so is the task of the trainee. Furthermore, if there are some questions or queries that a client wants to know and the trainee knows very well the said query, the trainee is tasked to accompany or respond to such questions.
