To Insert an Image Map An image map is an image that serves as a navigation device. With an image map, you can create multiple hotspots (clickable areas) in a single image and have each hotspot link to a different URL or file to open. You can also set where a linked document opens; for example you can open the document in a particular frame of a frameset document, or open it in a new browser window. With this assignment, you will have to create your own image to be used for your image map before creating the map. Note: When creating your image map, it helps to have multiple objects as a part of the whole image, so then it can create a link for that individual interactive image or "hotspot". See an example below.
Step 1: • • •
On the standard toolbar, click the insert tab and navigate to the image button. When the dialog box opens, navigate to the source of your saved image you will be using for your image map. When your image opens, click on the image if it is not already selected.
Step 2: •
Step 3:
Make sure your properties panel is expanded to show the image map tools. Name your image map in the Map field, using a unique name as illustrated below
•
Select a tool (square, circle, shape) and draw an area on the image that you want to make "clickable". Repeat this process for all the areas you want to make into hotspots.
Step 4: •
After adding a hotspot, the image will contain a shaded area as illustrated below. You can adjust the size of the hotspot by using black arrow tool, and clicking and dragging the corners.
Step 5: •
The Properties panel will change to display the hotspot characteristics. Fill in the appropriate fields, to link to another page on your web site or to a page at different Web site.
