IELTS SPEAKING TEST IN ALGERIA, DECEMBER, 2016 SOLVED INTERVIEW I am from Kapurthala, a town located in the north west of India, renowned for its historical structures. Prior to the independence of this country, it was equated with Paris on account of some of its structures based on French architectural pattern and cleanliness that could be found in the capital of France. My future plans are to study in Canada and subsequently get a reputed job there. Yes, I go on holidays in order to regain my lost energy and come back to my studies with a new energy and zest. I go at least once in a year as studies take most of my time and it is not possible for me to enjoy holidays frequently. I visit Himachal Pradesh, known for many hill stations where I can enjoy the sights of nature to my heart’s supreme delight. For a great holiday, a fortnight is sufficient for me as it can enable me to visit the places that I admire and stay there as well. Yes, I like photography. In fact, I have a digital camcorder that enables me to click hundreds of photographs. I like to preserve the pictures that I take which makes it possible to recollect the moments related to them and feel refreshed and delighted. CUE CARD Our imagination can enable us to visualize certain happenings in the past and correlate them with the requirements of the present times. I was studying in school when I had to use my imagination. I took part in on the spot painting competition. We were asked to prepare a painting that depicted natural beauty along with various facets (features, aspects, sides) of nature. It was not an easy task. I had to spend some time brain storming in order to envisage (imagine) such a moment. I realized that I had paid a visit to a hill station a few months ago and the events related to it came to my mind one after the other. I had come across flowers growing on one side of the road. I remembered this sight which spurred my fantasy and enabled me to include the spectacle (view) of rhododendrons swaying in the wind with the sun partly hidden behind the clouds thereby creating a light and shade impact. I included a child in it who could be seen admiring the dance of these flowers. In fact, a famous poem by William Wordsworth titled ‘I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud’ prompted my thoughts as well. There are certain difficulties related to using imagination. One tends to forget some happenings with the passage of time as a result of predominance of certain activities. As a result, it is not easy to recollect them. By means of a technique named mental co relationship, it becomes feasible. DISCUSSION Yes, I will do it again because I like to bring to my mind the beauties of nature that I saw in the past as they have the potential to transport me to a different world that affords (provides) solace and happiness. Yes, kids have imagination. It is based on what they have read; know from others or on firsthand experience. It depends on the age of a child. If less than ten, I would like to give a safe, interesting and educational toy to a child instead of a computer or an ipad game on account of certain reasons. No doubt a toy, a computer or an ipad game can improve cognitive skills in a child but equipment based on informative technology can lead to physical problems such as back problems and weak eyesight of a child whereas a toy is free from this shortcoming. Computer is useful for a child close to adolescence, but it is required to use under the supervision of parents. Yes, a teacher plays an important role in fostering the imaginative capabilities of children. It is possible when the teacher indulges in this act that encourages the kids as well. The reason is that the latter have highly receptive minds and they can easily grasp whatever they come across. Technology can affect our children both positively and negatively. On the positive side, it can serve as a teacher, making them aware of concepts of general awareness thereby developing mental sharpness. The downside is that its excessive use can develop certain physical problems that include sedentary lifestyle resulting in obesity and back problems. Psychological drawbacks are violence and lack of social skills through absence of face to face interaction. Yes, having a rich imagination is good for future work opportunities because it develops creativity that leads to high innovative approach. I think almost every job requires such a skill, but those related to fine arts are the most conspicuous or distinctive or stand out of the rest.
