HP Jetdirect Print Server - Using the Embedded Web Server with Jetdirect Firmware x.08.40 Using the embedded Web server HP Jetdirect print servers contain an embedded Web server that can be accessed through a supported Web browser. The embedded Web server provides access to configuration and status pages for the HP Jetdirect print server and the attached peripheral device. NOTE: The firmware on the HP Jetdirect print server must be X.07.03 or newer for the embedded Web server to be available. HP Jetdirect models with firmware versions A.xx.xx do not have an embedded web server. Click here to download HP Download Manager software to upgrade the Jetdirect firmware

Supported Web browsers The following Web browsers are supported: NOTE: Netscape 6.0 is not supported for use with the HP LaserJet 4100 Family printer embedded Web server or the HP Color LaserJet 4550 Family printer embedded Web server. Microsoft Windows 95, 98, NT 4.0, and 2000: •

Netscape Navigator v. 4.01, 4.02, 4.03, 4.05, 4.06, 4.07, and 4.08

Microsoft Internet Explorer v. 4.0 with update v SP1, 4.5x, and 5

HP-UX and Sun Solaris: •

Viewing the embedded Web server Before using the embedded Web server, the HP Jetdirect print server must be configured with a valid IP address. There are many ways to configure an IP address on the print server. For example, the Jetdirect print server will, by default, send Bootstrap Protocol (BOOTP) or Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) requests to be configured by a server. Also, the IP parameters can be configured using the control panel of the printer (for selected printers), Telnet, or HP Web Jetadmin. If the HP Jetdirect print server does not receive a BOOTP or DHCP configuration within a few minutes, it will default to the IP address 192.0.0.192. This address is not necessarily a valid IP address for the network, but it can be used to access the HP Jetdirect print server. However, to use the default IP address, a route must be established from the computer to the Jetdirect by using a route add command. See the help files of the operating system for more details on this command. Once a route or a valid IP address is established, perform the following steps: 1. Open a supported Web browser. 2. Enter the IP address of the print server as the URL.

3. The HP Jetdirect embedded Web page will be displayed. 4. Click Administration. 5. Click the tabs for the pages needed to configure or view the Jetdirect settings. 6. Click the ? icon on the right side of the Web page for additional help. NOTE: Changes to the IP address and other parameters will close the connection to the embedded Web server. To re-establish a connection, use the new IP address. Figure 1: : Status page of the EWS

Several configuration parameters are available through the embedded Web server. Below is an example of the Configuration page: Figure 2: : Configuration Screen of the EWS
