Horse Care Basics This is a self-paced course with continuous enrollment $20.00 Whether you already own a horse or are contemplating getting or caring for one, this is a chore not to be taken lightly. Horses are valuable animals and caring for them can be expensive and time-consuming. Thus, it is especially important that a person who deals with horses – whether as a horse owner, stable employee, or as a temporary ‘horse-sitter’ – knows exactly how to deal with horses at all times. This class covers all the basic aspects of horse care. Topics include feeding, stabling, bedding, grazing, grooming, shoeing, clothing and tacking-up your horse. A detailed list of equine disorders describes symptoms, causes, treatment, and prevention. There is also practical first aid for horses with hints on how to nurse a sick horse. It provides essential ‘horse sense’ for anyone working around horses, and most especially for those who have never cared for a horse before. The course will deal at length with the following Topics: Lesson 1 – The Horse Lesson 2 – Using Good Horse Sense Lesson 3 - The Pastured Horse Lesson 4 – The Stabled Horse Lesson 5 – Food and Water Lesson 6 – Horse Diseases & Injuries Lesson 7 – Horse First Aid Lesson 8 – Tack & Clothing Lesson 9 – Hints & Tips of Horse Care Grading Policy A = 100 - 90 B = 89 - 80 C = 79 - 70 D = 69 - 60 F = 59 – Below
