We strive to bring about equality of opportunity in our society with preservation of regional & cultural traditions, by improving the lives of women, children and youth for sustainableility and by in advancing the right of disable & deprived people; Explicitly we work towards prosperity of rural, tribal & urban slum dwellers through integrated approach, which embodies awareness, education, economic, health, sanitation, capacity building & bio-diversity programmes, with an insistence on women /youth empowerment.

8. Aims & Objectives: a. To work for integrated socio-economic development of the Tribal, scheduled caste, rural poor, slum-dwellers, and people in need. b. To establish Old Age Homes & Day Care Centres for taking care of neglected & helpless elderly people c. To establish Destitute Homes for taking care of destitute and Working Women’s Hostel for women in need. d. To work towards substance abuse prevention. e. To establish Sevashrams/ Crèches/ Residential Tribal Welfare Schools for taking care of orphan children and child education. f. To arrange for regular health camps/ eye camps for health / eye care of the people in need. g. To work for abolition of child labour from the society and protection of child rights. h. To work for creation of self-employment opportunities by arranging various vocational training programmes in coordination with state, international & national authorities/organisations. i. To settle family problems like matrimonial relations, dowry etc through family counseling j. To spread the idea of small family norms and help in family planning through women education. k. To seek active participation of Indian Youths in democratic affairs of Country Back Ground Gayatri Rurl Educational Society ( GRES ), was set up as a non-political, non-profit making voluntary development organization on 3rd August 2000 and was registered under the Indian Societies Registration Act 1860 vide Regd. No. 366/2000 Dt.3-8-2000. It was founded by eminent social worker Sri Manipatruni Narasimha Murthy who was passed away during the year 2003 The motto of GRES is to mobilize public opinion and generate resources for supporting development Action. It recognizes the right of every Indian to lead a life with dignity and self-respect in a just and equitable society. It feels the need to improve the capacities of individuals, communities and women, to improve the quality of lives and enhance their ability to negotiate from a position of strength; a strength that would come from being educated, in good health and having the capacity to be engaged in productive work. It takes initiative for the Integrated Development that would arrive out of the felt needs of the people. 27 Small Non Governmental Organisations are working under our organisation.

GRES implements Eight major programs, namely: 1.SustainableFarmingProgram(SFP)

SFP develops farmer-initiated, location specific and sustainable farming technologies in partnership with community organizations to promote appropriate alternatives to

4 mainstream agricultural processes that have been responsible for losses in farm productivity and income, biodiversity, indigenous knowledge systems, and community control over genetic resources.

2. Sustainable Community-Based Resource Management Program (SCBRMP) SCBRMP enhances people's environmental awareness and builds their capacities in natural resource utilization, protection, and management. Directed towards the formation of community resource management structures, the program aims to promote participatory and community-directed approaches in the protection and rehabilitation of natural resources including coastal and marine, forest and water resources. It also mobilizes community actions to address resource destruction and depletion, biodiversity erosion and unsustainable utilization of land and aquatic resources.

3.Rural Livelihood Development Program (RLDP) RLDP contributes to the development of sustainable livelihood systems and the promotion of greater equity in rural areas by increasing incomes of rural households, both from farm and off-farm sources. The program's key strategies revolve around facilitating the poor's access to credit and market and developing economically viable and sustainable enterprises where the beneficiaries effectively exercise management and control over these activities and receive equitable benefits from the same.

Policy Research, Advocacy and Campaigns (PRAC) GRES's research, advocacy and campaigns program generates and promotes information, actions and proposals on key development issues and concerns agriculture and small-scale farmers and HIV/AIDS, Women rights, eradication labour, adolescents and women from trafficking, rehabilitation programs to children, street children etc

5. Women and Children development Program (WCDP)

GRES run the Family Counseling centers for salvation of women family problems in the district with the financial support from Central Social Welfare Board, New Delhi and rehabilitation programmes to the street children, adolescent children, orphans, disabled children with the financial support from Sarvasikshaw Abhiyan run under Women and Children Development Department of New Delhi

6. Trafficking and Commercial Sexual Exploitation(TCSE) Prevention of Trafficking and Rescue, Rehabilitation and Re-integration of Victims of Trafficking and Commercial Sexual Exploitation

7. Stigma and Discrimination on HIV/AIDS Programs(SDP) Preventing the Stigma and discrimination on HIV/AIDs through mobilizing the population and stakeholders and contribute to achieving the Millennium Development (MDG) Goal 6 “Halt and reverse the spread of HIV/AIDS by 2015”. It has linkage to other MDGs, in particular those related to poverty reduction and infant mortality.

9.Household Sanitation Survey GRES was entrusted the survey of household sanitation in 11 mandal in the district by the district collector under the supervision of RWS department and accordingly GRES has made field visits ,interviewed with each beneficiaries and covered total beneficiaries of 32450 families and furnished report along with C.D to the Executive Engineer RWS Organization Members GRES is headed by a Executive Committee Body with women members composed of academics, farmer-leaders, NGO leaders and development advocates who share a common vision of development and a commitment to genuine people empowerment. Sri.P.Ramesh Babu, M.Com., I.C.W.A having sound knowledge in advocacy, skill development training programs, awareness programs, environment programs, human resource management programs , community development ,funds raising, projects designing is the Project Director of the organization . 11. The members of the organization, its meeting, the reason of holding the meeting and the decisions generally taken. The member of the organization can be from all strata of the society. The members generally meet annually in the annual general body meeting unless otherwise needed. To run the organization, there is an executive committee consisting of Seven elected members from the general body of the organization. There are as much as four female members in the managing committee. The managing committee meets once in every 1-2 months interval. The committee discuss on all the matters . DISTRICT LEVEL NETWORKING :-GRES has been leading the District Women development Network ’ (DWDN), a forum of around 26 NGOs / VDOs having Regd. Office in the undivided Srikakulam District of Andhra Pradesh and active in pro-poor developmental work of this region. Mrs.Sadasivuni Krishna Kumari Secretary of GRES has been elected as the Secretary cum Convener of the DWDN for the consecutive second term this year.

HIGHLIGHTS OF SOME ACHIEVEMENTS. No of No of Description villages persons covered benefited 1. GRES has successfully organised the first ever Mega Health 382 46,400 Camp in Srikakulam district during the year 2006 and 2007 at Borubhadra village, Polaki, santabommali mandals of srikakulam district. This camp named as “Improve the Helath of poor women” rendered health service 2. Another innovative project being implemented by GRES is 12 195 Rehabilitation of Street Children /Beggars & Protection of their children upto 14 years of Age. The Organization had made a survey and identified 275 beggar families. So far, the organization has rehabilitated 195 families in gainful economic activities, provided them house in Srikakulam urban slums and provided them financial assistance for their economic growth through Income Generation Activity. The children of the families are now taught in a “Free Education Centre” being run by GRES. The resources required for this purpose is usually raised by the Organization through “Donations”, “Govt. Grant” and internal accrual. 3. GRES is working on elderly people’s developmental 14 98 activities. So far GRES has promoted nine SHGs among the older people, provided legal / medical / financial and other assistance to problems of older people of the society. 4. GRES has been actively involved in child labour eradication 122 796 as well as development of child labour through educating them in National Child Labour Project Schools to bring them to mainstream schools. At present GRES is running 2 such Child Labour Schools with a strength of 50 in each school. We do provide the mid day meal to the children on school as per the Govt. of India directives. In this process, so far 150 child labours have been educated by GRES and have entered into mainstream school. 5. GRES has successfully imparted vocational training to 179 3,514 unemployed youth and women in different vocations under its vocational training programme, who have been self employed 6. GRES has been conducting training programs on the micro 65 2,860 credit; self help group promotion, different aspects of SHG for the capacity building of the group members of the SHGs and other local NGOs. It has also imparted vocational training to 2860 numbers of Self Help Group members on different trades for their micro enterprises. 7. GRES has been implementing the literacy programme in 256 11,900 its project areas with employment of literacy teachers derived

9 from concerned area, who render their voluntary service for the development of their own people. In this process, GRES has so far made 7150 tribal people literate by this move. 8. GRES has provided books, slates and other study material to the illiterate persons in the self help groups with a view to make all illiterate member of the SHG’s literate under its total literacy programme. 9. GRES has established training cum production centers in Srikakulam Town , Ready made garments making, Candle Making, Agarbathi making ,Toys making, Pickles making , .Through theses training cum production centers GRES has been able to provide employment opportunity to poor and needy women of the region. 10. Since the year 2005 until April ’2008 GRES has promoted SHG’s & credit linked SHG’s in the undivided Srikakulam District, which has made it a pioneer organization in this region on Micro-Credit Program. Most of these groups are exclusive women groups, which reflect the seriousness & involvement of GRES towards women empowerment 11. GRES has solved the domestic violence’s of women through Family Counseling Centre running with the funds from Central social Welfare Board Delhi 12. GRES has been providing free education to the women candidates those who failed in SSC to achieve 100% pass results with the funds from Central social Welfare Board Delhi 13. GRES has been succeeded in Formation of women groups in fishermen community and provided skill development trainings and proved loan facilities for self employment through bank linkage 14. Awareness Generations Programmes were conducted in 321villages to the Women on subjects of Women and Law, Women and Health, Community Health , Women Technology, Social Action , Panchayats and Grama Sabhas , Communal Harmony, Legal Literacy, Hiv /Aids , Trafficking, Stigma on HIV 15.
