The secret word of declaration by which Jesus spoke in conversation with Judas Iscariot, during eight days, three days before he celebrated Passover. When he appeared on earth, he performed miracles and great wonders for the salvation of humanity. And since some [walked] in the way of righteousness while others walked in their transgression, the twelve disciples were called. He began to speak with them about the mysteries beyond the world and what would take place at the end. But often he does not appear to his disciples as himself, but you find him among them as a child. And one day he was with his disciples in Judea, and he found them seated and gathered together practicing their piety. When he [approached] his disciples,

25-26 “practicing their piety” : that is, “offering a prayer of thanksgiving over the bread” (p. 34,1-2). Alternatively, Nagel suggests that this may be translated “disputing issues about God.”

Literally, “that your god [will be] praised.” But the Coptic èi smoy seems to correspond to R eyxaristi (ll. 1-2) and eyxaristia (l. 5) and may thus be interpreted as the equivalent of Greek eujcaristei'n; cf. Luke 22:19; 24:30; 1 Corinthians 11:24. The ink traces at the beginning of the line are too faint to be read with any certainty. For someone else will replace you, in order that the twelve [disciples] may again come to completion with their god.” And Judas said to him, “When will you tell me these things, and (when) will the great day of light dawn for the [---] generation?” But when he said this, Jesus left him. At the end of the line, Nta {…} may be restored to either Nta{y-}, “[they],” or Nta{w-}, “[he].” Since the word katalyma in l. 11 is a clear allusion to Mark 14:11 and Luke 22:11—that is, the place where Jesus wished to eat the Passover (the last supper) together with his disciples (cf. p. 33,4-6, “three days before he celebrated Passover”)—the plural is probably more plausible. The question of the scribes in l. 21 also seems to presuppose that the disciples are together with Jesus in the “guest room”; cf. the introduction.
