God's Chariots Job 16:11: Jesus said, the prince of this world (a term applied to Satan) is judged. Ephesians 2:2; “Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience.” (Italics mine). Ephesians 3:10: “To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God.” (Italics mine). Ephesians 6:10-13: “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God that ye may be able to stand against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done al, to stand. (The symbolism and terminology used here is unmistakably that of ranked armies.) I Peter 3:21-22: “. . . Jesus Christ: who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.” Ed Murphy quotes the listing, developed by McAlpine in his New Testament Word Field for Powers, of the seven Greek words which appear in the verses we’ve quoted above. These are variously translated by the use of the English “ruler,” “power,” “authority,” “throne,” “dominion” and “spiritual force.” 1 The effect of the words, especially in Ephesians 6, suggests a ranking of power and authority-like an army. Satan himself is called “the prince of the power of the air,” in Ephesians 2:2,1. (Italics mine). Dr. Murphy provides this theological perspective: Jesus reveals that Satan directs a mighty kingdom of evil. He has his own evil angels, just as God has His holy angels (Matthew 25: 41.). Next we discover that these angels are the same as the demons spirits who bind and oppress men (Matthew 12:22-29; Luke 13:10-16; Revelation 12:417; 13:1). 2 Obviously the counter-kingdom is organized. For what purpose? • • •
Deadly adversaries of mankind. Demons share Satan’s murderous deceiving nature and desire. Their goal is the enslavement and the eternal doom of people.
• They also accuse “the brethren” (God’s people by faith), with the obvious desire to see them hurt and harmed. 3 Zechariah 3:2: “And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the lord, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him.” Please visit our internet church at http://www.miracleinternetchurch.com
