Genetic Diversity Handout By Sarah Kiekintveld 1.What Genetic Diversity is: the variation of genes in the genetic makeup in a species. - basically this is saying that there are differences in the A,G,T and Cs in genes of species. 2.Importance: if one species has no diversity, a disease or fungus etc can kill them all off. But if there's variety in a species, then the disease likely can't kill them all off. 3.Genetic Engineering impact: we try to make a species better by changing the genes but it really doesn't help because you lose genetic diversity, making the species more prone to die off. However, Genetic Engineering isn't all bad because of things created from genetic engineering like insulin that is helpful to humans.
