Role of a Business Analyst:
Understanding Requirements: “Time flies like an arrow House flies like an apple” 1. Don’t assume/carry prejudices 2. Don’t jump to conclusion or solutions 3. Whenever you have a problem-ASK 4. Whenever your out of time, escalate before half the time 5. Whenever changes come do accept them, however ask for time and money 6. Break the requirements into batches. Within a batch prioritize 7. Requirements are important as you see them, but as your customer or end user see’s it 8. Never ever commit on deliveries without your teams concurrence. (Team is not relationship as delivery, project manager but the delivery workforce like team lead, spoc) 9. Walk through of the offshore team’s understanding is very important.
Types of requirements 1. Paradoxical requirements- reads for something but after analyzing you are confused 2. Contradictory requirements 3. Double Meaning (Three letter acronyms) 4. Requirements which seem infeasible 5. Hidden Requirements 6. Requirements which are disruptive 7. Requirements which have assumptions 8. Read between the lines “Build me a black wall painted white” Always ask the customer why he wants the particular requirement ASK 1) What 2) Why 3) Where 4) When 5) By whom 6) To whom Things to be noted: 1. Requirements gathered during the first time are not more than 7% 2. Only 25% are analyzed correctly 3. Don’t be prejudiced and judgmental 4. Overcome fear while eliciting requirements 5. Don’t interrupt the clients flow during elicitation 6. Carry recording media wherever the elicitation is taking place( planned/unplanned) 7. Try to find out clients process models 8. Plan for changes 9. Split up the documents for managing them thoroughly 10. Prioritize the requirements (H,M,L) 11. Keep the requirements in Bullet format. 12. After getting the signoff from the customer, pass the same to offshore 13. Put a clause for e.g.-the signoff will be considered accepted if not replied within 2 days. 14. Accept and invite changes, Plan and get paid
