LifeBook A-1010 Disassembly
1. The tools used in the following procedure are an electric phillips head driver, a 5 mm hex nutdriver, a plastic screw driver, and a T-pin.
3. Remove two screws securing the hard drive and slide it out from its bay.
2. To begin the disassembly procedure, make sure the unit is powered off. Remove the battery.
4. Remove a total of 13 case screws.
5. Remove the screw securing the DIMM cover and lift it off.
6. Remove the screw securing the PC card cover and lift it off.
7. Stand the unit on its front end and remove four hinge screws along the rear.
8. Pry up the control panel strip.
9. Remove two screws securing the keyboard and and tilt it over.
10. Unlock and remove its data cable.

11. Unlock and remove the touch panel cable.
12. Remove four screws securing the upper cover
13. Remove the screw securing the LCD cable. Detach this cable.
14. Lift off the upper cover and LCD from the lower assembly.
15. Pry off the left and right hinge covers. 16. Remove four screws securing the LCD to the upper cover. 3
17. To disassemble the LCD, remove six screw caps and the screws underneath that secure the frame to the rear cover.
18. Use the plastic screwdriver to pry around the edge of the frame to separate it from the rear cover.
19. Remove two screws at each front corner that secure the LCD’s hinges. 20. Detach two cables to the inverter card and lift it out.
21. Remove six screws securing the LCD panel to the rear cover and lift it out.

22. In the lower assembly, remove two screws securing the DVD/CD drive. Slide the drive to the right and lift it out.
23. Remove the screw securing the IR board. Disconnect it and lift it out.
24. Remove three screws securing the cooling fan. Disconnect it and lift it out.
25. Remove four screws securing the CPU shield and lift it off.
26. Remove four more screws securing the cooling unit and lift it off.
27. Remove three screws securing the floppy disk drive and bracket. Lift the drive to disconnect its data cable underneath.
28. To isolate the drive, remove two screws securing its bracket and lift it off. 5
29. Disconnect the left and right speakers’ cables and lift out the speakers.
30. Remove six hex nut screws from the I/O ports.
32. Remove four screws securing the motherboard.
31. Remove three screws securing the rear heatsink and lift it off.
33. Maneuver the board out of the lower cover. 6

LifeBook A-1010 Assembly
1. Maneuver the motherboard into the lower cover. Secure it with four screws.
2. Position the rear heat sink and secure it with three screws.
3. Replace the six hex nuts around the I/O ports.
4. Position the left and right speakers and connect their cables. 7
5. Position the bracket to the floppy disk drive and secure it with two screws.
6. Connect the drive’s flex cable. Secure the drive and bracket with three screws.
7. Position the cooling unit and secure it with four screws.
8. Position the CPU shield and secure it with four screws.
9. Position the cooling fan and connect its power cable. Secure it with three screws.
10. Position and secure the IR board. Connect its cable. 8
12. Place the LCD panel into the rear cover and secure it with six screws.
11. Slide the DVD/CD drive into its bay and secure it with two screws.
14. Secure the left and right hinges with two screws each.
13. Connect the inverter and LCD cables to the inverter card.
15. Position the frame to the lower cover and snap it into place. Secure it with six screws. 9
16. Position the LCD assembly to the upper cover and secure it with four screws.
17. Snap on the left and right hinge covers.
18. Position the upper cover to the lower assembly. Secure the upper cover with four screws.
19. Connect and secure the LCD cable.
20. Insert and lock the touch panel cable.
21. Position the keyboard so that you can insert and lock its data cable.
22. Maneuver the keyboard into place and secure it with two screws. 10
23. Snap the control panel strip into place.
24. Close the LifeBook and turn it on its front end. Replace the four hinge screws.
25. Replace and secure the DIMM cover, and also the PC card cover.
26 Replace the 13 case screws.
28. Slide the battery into its bay.
27. Slide the hard disk drive into its bay. Secure the drive with two screws. 11
