PERFORMANCE TASKS

The office of the Prefect of Students wants to formulate a program to eliminate a mounting number of students with discipline record. The POS Coordinator asks the assistance of the Senior High School Students in Practical Research 1 to conduct Case Study Analysis about this concern.

PROBLEM ENCOUNTERED: Truancy is an act that students not going to school but their parents know they are attending their classes. According to the handbook truancy is part of category C and the punishment when teachers caught them. First offense, one day suspension, 70% in Character grade in Christian Living and will be put under Disciplinary Probation. Second offense, two day suspension, and 70% in Character Grade in Christian living and will be put under strict Disciplinary Probation. Third offense, Exclusion, 70% in Character and Conduct. Truancy is a big issue to the school, parents, and also to the students because if they commit truancy they are lying to their parents but also to themselves. Some causes of truancy are playing computer games, go meeting their girlfriend/boyfriend and going to the house of a friend, and it is a big issue to the school because of they are responsible for the safety of the students. And another cause of truancy is the influence of their friends who are committing the same mistakes and to that it may lead to being a hobbie of a student/s to commit truancy.

POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS: 1. Teachers should have contact to the parents of the students if their children will not go to school. 2. Parents and officials of school should have conference meeting to the student who commit truancy. 3. Teachers, and official in school should have more focus on truancy case. 4. They should do a community service. 5. And if student/s commit truancy they should be monitored. 6. Parents should discipline their child if they commit truancy and give them counseling. 7. Officials in school should have contact in the computer shops near by the schools. 8. Schools must have a talk of conference about truancy and tell the punishment that may happen to the children will do truancy.
