Introduction and objectives of the project
INTRODUCTION Online shopping is a form of electronic commerce which allows consumers to directly buy goods or services from a seller over the Internet using a web browser. Consumers find a product of interest by visiting the website of the retailer directly or by searching among alternative vendors using a shopping search engine, which displays the same product's availability and pricing at different e-retailers. As of 2016, customers can shop online using a range of different computers and devices, including desktop computers, laptops, tablet computers and smartphones. An online shop evokes the physical analogy of buying products or services at a regular "bricks-and-mortar" retailer
or shopping center; the process is called business-to-consumer (B2C) online shopping. When an online store is set up to enable businesses to buy from another businesses, the process is called business-to-business (B2B) online shopping. A typical online store enables the customer to browse the firm's range of products and services, view photos or images of the products, along with information about the product specifications, features and prices. Online stores typically enable shoppers to use "search" features to find specific models, brands or items. Online customers must have access to the Internet and a valid method of payment in order to complete a transaction, such as a credit card, an Interac-enabled debit card, or a service such as PayPal.
Consumers find a product of interest by visiting the website of the retailer directly or by searching among alternative vendors using a shopping search engine. Once a particular product has been found on the website of the seller, most online retailers use shopping cart software to allow the consumer to accumulate multiple items and to adjust quantities, like filling a physical shopping cart or basket in a conventional store. A "checkout" process follows (continuing the physical-store analogy) in which payment and delivery information is collected, if necessary. Some stores allow consumers to sign up for a permanent online account so that some or all of this information only needs to be entered once. The consumer often
receives an e-mail confirmation once the transaction is complete.
Characterstics Ease of Use Simplicity is the mark of a good design, and 76% of consumers agree. They say that the most important characteristic of a good website is ease of use. Site Speed Site speed is an indicator of an easy to use website and draws a lot of parallels with the ability to convert visitors. Online sellers literally have seconds to make a sale as shrinking attention spans (8 seconds, smaller than a goldfish’s) influences e-commerce purchasing behavior.
Mobile friendly Another of the major types of e-commerce features you’ll need to make your site easier to use is by optimizing for mobile.

Requirement Specification:It is quite difficult and time consuming task to find the information as well as maintaining i n f o r m a t i o n manually. If all these information are to be kept at a single place it is also not possible in the manual system. Computerized system will upgrade and manage information very easily. As it is a webbased application so it uses Internet technologies and its hardware/software requirement will also be more comprehensive than Desktop application system. Some Network devices will be required like modems, switches, Internet connection. Software required for the system is also different from a normal desktop system. First of all a server software will be mandatory (here Internet
Information Server (IIS)). A browser is also needed as a client process on the user side. The growth of Ecommerce business has skyrocketed over the last few years, and the momentum continues to swing upwards in 2016 as well. Online transactions have become an integral part of our lives these days, thanks to the growing acceptance of E-commerce as a convenient alternative to the traditional shopping experience. E-commerce has given an all new dimension to entrepreneurship in the form of webpreneurs. No doubt, it is an exciting time to explore the E-commerce market. One has to keep it in mind that the Ecommerce industry is one of the most lucrative targets for cybercriminals. The online retail industry has had its fair shares of incidents involving security
breaches. News of the recent eBay hack is a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities associated with online businesses. Are you wondering how to protect your Ecommerce business from potential security threats when online retail giants like eBay could not? It can be extremely challenging, no doubt. Nevertheless, certain best practices can be implemented to safeguard the integrity of your online store and the confidentiality of your customer data. Here's a list of five security best practices to prevent Ecommerce fraud and keep your online store secure. Measures to ensure Security Major security measures are following −
Encryption − It is a very effective and practical way to safeguard the data being transmitted over the network. Sender of the information encrypts the
data using a secret code and only the specified receiver can decrypt the data using the same or a different secret code. Digital Signature − Digital signature ensures the authenticity of the information. A digital signature is an esignature authenticated through encryption and password. Security Certificates − Security certificate is a unique digital id used to verify the identity of an individual website or user.
Scope of future applications
Scope of online shopping Purchasing and selling products and services over the internet without the need of going physically to the market is what online shopping all about. Online shopping is just like a retail store shopping that we do by going to the market, but it is done through the internet. Online shopping has made shopping painless and added more fun. Online stores offer product description, pictures, comparisons, price and much more. Few examples of these are Amazon.com, ebay.com, framt.com and the benefits of online shopping is that by having direct access to consumer ,the online stores can offer products that cater to the needs of consumer ,cookies can be used for tracking the customer selection over the
internet or what is of their interest when they visit the site again . Online shopping makes use of digital technology for managing the flow of information, products, and payment between consumer, site owners and suppliers. Online shopping can be either B2B (business to business) or B2C (business to consumer)
Shopping cart is one of the important facility provided in online shopping, this lets customer to browse different goods and services and once they select an item to purchase they can place the item in shopping cart, and continue browsing till the final selection. Customers can even remove the items from shopping cart that
were selected earlier before they place the final order. It reminds us of shopping basket that we carry in departmental store Shopping online is about to explode. Retailers of all types are expanding product offerings, adding in-store pickup, free shipping and experimenting with social media. It’s getting harder to tell pure play Internet retailers from the bricks and mortar shops with online portals, and all of them are reinventing how we'll shop online in the future. Be it via a mobile device, tablet computer, in-store kiosk or computer, the lines are blurring and the result will be both good and bad for consumers. First the bad. Much of the activity and expansion is the indirect result of new legislation requiring Internet retailers to collect sales tax. There already are 12
states with laws either enacted or awaiting approval, and now Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois is hoping to pass such a law at the national level. There’s no telling when, or even if the legislation will pass, but there’s also no turning back the tide. It will happen and online shoppers will be required to pay sales tax, sooner or later. But the prospect of an even playing field has emboldened traditional retailers, many of whom are becoming more aggressive in capturing online sales. We’re seeing retailers like L.L Bean launch free shipping on all items, Macy’s on purchases of $99 or more, Walmart buying social media platform Kosmix for $300 million and opening up @Walmartlabs to further build its online business, and Toys R Us announcing a new 300,000 sq. ft. distribution center to support internet sales.
Because if traditional retailers are to compete with sites like Amazon – which flourished in the absence of regulation -they must implement some of the same benefits like free shipping, liberal return policies, varied product selection and customer reviews.
