Figurative Language Ch. 17-19 Frankenstein is written in the first person point of view, from Robert Walten’s and Victor’s perspective. Foreshadowing is an element used in Frankenstein, as well as the use of a story within a story. It is a gothic romance due to the story’s dark and gloomy setting, and how nature plays a part in the story. Ch. 17: “…but when I looked upon him, when I saw the filthy mass that moved and talked…” (p. 127). Metaphor Ch. 18: “…I met the salutations of my friends with a readier smile and a more cheerful heart.” (p. 129). Personification Ch. 19: “…I saw an insurmountable barrier placed between me and my fellow-men.” (p. 135). Metaphor
