Reading Workshop
Students were showed two sets of books and invited to tell a visible difference between them. Iustin gave us the big idea – some books “are about REAL things”. We built on his good observation and tried to look more into this difference. Below you have student-generated answers.
• We see drawings • It is about invented (imaginary) things • Animals and plants can talk • Stories
We see photographs It is about real things Animals and plants are “normal” Reports
Then we practiced individually using prints of various book covers – students placed the pictures under the corresponding text types (fiction or nonfiction).
