Hello friends , How to install fedora ? …… If this question raises in your mind …. Then you must read this ! Requirements – Fedora 9 bootable CD,6 GB free space,512 MB RAM 1.Booting from the live CD “Rescue installed system” : It is used to repair or rescue a operating system that is already installed . To load the rescue system with the installation disc, choose Rescue installed system from the boot menu. Specify the language, keyboard layout and network settings for the rescue system with the screens that follow. The final setup screen configures access to the existing system on your computer. By default, rescue mode attaches an existing operating system to the rescue system under the directory /mnt/sysimage/.

If you Choose “Install or upgrade an existing system (text mode): You will enter a text mode installation wizard , like the one similar to the windows BIOS menu If you Choose “Install or upgrade an existing system” , you will enter the normal GUI interface:

2.Media test Why media test ? The media test feature in anaconda installer is used to verify the integrity of data on the DVD .This way generates an SHA-1 hash from the DVD itself for comparison to the original ISO file's hash. It involves using a simple script to recreate an ISO file from the DVD while at the same time removing the padding added by the burning software. The result is an ISO file that is identical to the original ISO file. You can also pipe that result directly to sha1sum to get the hash to compare to the original ISO file's hash.

If you need to skip this media test , you can press the skip button. It will take to fedora installer “anaconda 11.4.0.82”.

3.Click next .choose your language ,and keyboad layout and configure if you use any network devices and type your hostname.

Choose your languageduring installation as English for normal user.

Choose keyboard layout as U.S.English for a normal user .

The system will prompt you to allow formatting on the drive after clicking next button .

Choose your hostname , Network devices , gateway and DNS address .(recommended for advanced users)

4. Choose your time zone and set a password to your root account and choose the partition for your operating system.And give write changes to disk.

Normally people use to give root as password and admin as username

Generally speaking in linux you can choose guided partition to keep fedora as your lone operating system.

The system will prompt you before writing partition layout to the disk .If you have left any changes then click “go back” otherwise opt for “write changes to disk”.

5.customize the softwares you need to install in your system and click next, fedora installer will check for dependencies and then fedora will start to install and after installation the system will be asked to reboot. The office productivity tools consist of productivity suite required for planning , management , graphical tools and multimedia applications. The software development tools consist of tools to compile softwares in fedora. And the web server consists of apache server . Additional software repositary can be downloaded from the fedora server.

Before installing the softwares , the system will check for dependencies and then resolves any dependencies or conflicts between components in your configuration.

The selected packages are installed now ,

After the installation of the selected softwares , the system will prompt you for a reboot.

6.After rebooting the system ,

you will go through the process of license information , user creation ,date and time settings , hardware profile review.

Sending your hardware profile will enable you to get updates for your hardware from the fedora community easily.

Click forward after accepting the license agreement .

In user creation process , you will create a non-administrative account following the root account (administrative account).

The date and time consists of tabs like date and time , Network time protocol , Time zone : Date and time : In this tab , you will specify the day ,month,time in hours ,mins and seconds. Network Time protocol : Using this , you can synchronize your system time with a remote time server. Time zone: Time zone can be chose with your specific location

Some Tidbits about the stuffs mentioned above : Anaconda is the installation program used by Fedora, Red Hat Enterprise Linux and some other distributions. During installation, a target computer's hardware is identified and configured and the appropriate file systems for the system's architecture are created. Finally, anaconda allows the user to install the operating system software on the target computer. anaconda can also upgrade existing installations of earlier versions of the same distribution. After the installation is complete, you can reboot into your installed system and continue doing customization using firstboot .
