Just For You

Joyful Jamboree FEBRUARY 2009

Watch out for Delhi-6 American-born Indian, Roshan (Abhishek Bachchan) brings his ailing grandmother back to India. Little does he know that the quick trip will turn into the longest journey of his life - a journey within. The backdrop of the story is the old walled city, better known as Chandni Chowk, a character in itself. It represents the chaos, religion, beliefs and ethos of the Indian people. The Pin code of that part of the city is 110006, Some great music from this movie, like Masakalli is already buzzing in the air.

In many ways, we are like the buzzard, the bat, and the bumblebee. We struggle about with all our problems and frustrations, never realizing that all we have to do is look up. Hey that is why the saying , “Sorrow looks back, worry looks around, but Faith looks up” . All we have to do is to have faith in ourselves !

TROPHIES ANF TITLES for India Grandslam winners Yuki, Mahesh and Sania returned home yesterday after capturing the minds of all tennis lovers. Sania Mirza became the first Indian woman to capture a Grand Slam title after winning the Australian Open mixed doubles trophy with compatriot Mahesh Bhupathi, whose bulging Grand Slam kitty grew fat to 11 crowns, last month This victory came a day after India had found a

new singles Open champion in Yuki Bhambri, who lifted the junior title, thus capping the country's campaign at the first Grand Slam of the year on a high note. It was Sania and Bhupathi's first Grand Slam title together. They had ended runners-up here last year. The win also gave Bhupathi his seventh title in mixed doubles overall and

second at the Australian Open, following his 2006 triumph with Martina Hingis. They also got richer by 1,34,460 Australian dollars. It was a superb show by the Mixed doubles. Our first Indian Jodi win. Let them bring more grandslams to India and wish Yuki to go ahead and win more.

The Buzzard, The Bat & The Bumblebee If you put a buzzard in a pen that is 6 feet by 8 feet and is entirely open at the top, the bird, in spite of its ability to fly, will be an absolute prisoner. The reason is that a buzzard always begins a flight from the ground with a run of 10 to 12 feet. Without space to run, as is its habit, it will not even attempt to fly, It will remain a prisoner for life in a small jail with no top.

The ordinary bat that flies around at night, a remarkably nimble creature in the air, cannot take off from a level place. If it is placed on the floor or flat ground, all it can do is shuffle about helplessly and, no doubt, painfully, until it reaches some slight elevation from which it can throw itself into the air. Then, at once, it takes off like a flash.

A bumblebee, if dropped into an open tumbler, will be there until it dies, unless it is taken out. It never sees the means of escape at the top, but persists in trying to find some way out through the sides near the bottom. It will seek a way where none exists, until it completely destroys itself.

Use the rest of your essay to discuss supporting points in detail.

Back your points up with specific information and examples from readings and lecture

9. Leave time to review your exam

Ten Tips for Exam Success…

Make sure you have answered all of the questions.

Proofread your writing for spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Check your math answers for careless mistakes.

1. Select a productive study location 

Choose an area free from distractions (roommates, television, computer).

10. Reward yourself after the exam 2. Prepare in advance 

Take some time to do something you like to do (read a magazine, exercise, see a movie).

Once the exam is over, do not dwell on past mistakes or immediately start studying for your next exam.

Use a day planner and designate specific times to accomplish specific tasks. Avoid “cramming”

3. Analyze your old exam results 

Consider what types of questions you missed

Where did the exam questions come from ?

4. Decide on and adopt the study strategies that work best for you  Keep in mind that different types of exams/classes will require you to use different study strategies.

5. Practice what will be required of you on the exam 

If your exam is problem based, work on problems (it does little good to just read your math book). If your exam is all essay, spend some time considering what topics will likely be covered and make a brief outline

6. Be assertive in seeking assistance 

Utilize every free hour

7. Stay relaxed and confident 

Remind yourself that you are well-prepared and are going to do well.

Don’t talk to other students before the exam if they are anxious. Anxiety is contagious.

8. When writing an essay exam, get right to the point: 

State your main point in the first sentence.

Use the first paragraph to provide an overview of your essay.

There's nothing to fear --- you're as good as the best, As strong as the mightiest, too. You can win in every battle or test; For there's no one just like you. There's only one you in the world today; So nobody else, you see, Can do your work in as fine a way: You're the only you there'll be ! So face the world, and all life is yours To conquer and love and live: And you'll find the happiness that endures In just the measure you give; There's nothing too good for you to possess, Nor heights where you cannot go: Your power is more than belief or guess It is something you have to know. There is nothing to fear you can and you will. For you are the invincible you. Set your foot on the highest hill There's nothing you cannot do.

GREAT MANAGEMENT GURUS

FEBRUARY 2009

Making the right CHOICES and fashioning it for yourself—That is what life is about ! When you figure out the technique of getting most out of your life you get your highest degree. You don’t have to study long hours for it. All you have to be is observant and aware and learn your lessons from nature.

Small but steady. It is always so busy. Do you know what the ant wants you to learn from it ? Earn First. Spend Later.. Invest First. Consume Later.

Notice how all huge trees begin their lives as a small seeds? Then they grow in stages. The higher a tree grows, the deeper it spreads it roots. What does it teach ? Firstly it tells us that we must be patient with ourselves and grow in stages. Secondly a rolling stone gathers no moss. So to grow as an individual, family or an organization we need to spread our roots deeply and firmly. Finally even though we must be firmly rooted to our beliefs and values we must not become rigid in our outlook. We must branch out and learn the many things life has to offer constantly.

Do you see that when any irritation gets into oyster it uses the same irritations to create a Pearl? What is it trying to tell you? Create a pearl every time you face adversities.

Chameleon changes colors, for self-protection. We often call a fickle person , a chameleon. But even a chameleon has a lesson to teach. We should be adaptable and learn to adjust to people, places and changing circumstances.

The Eagle has an average life expectancy of around 60 years. However did you know when it reaches around 30 years of age, it cannot fly and catch food as efficiently. It needs to choose to either die or live. In order to live it must break its own beak and wings. A 150 days long, painful process till the new beak and wings grow again. The eagle is then ready to fly and catch food with the same energy and speed. What does it teach you?

We must at times make painful choices to move forward, Only freed from the burdens of the past can we take advantage of the present. Now go and figure out for yourself what nature is trying to teach you everyday. Look around and note your observations. What is the thunder, the lightning, the monsoon, the river, the brook, the dawn , the dusk , the road the wind, the sky trying to tell you? Are you aware?

MISGUIDED MISSILES - Humorously Yours The Pakistan army decides to launch a nuke-missile towards India . They don't need any permission from their govt, and promptly order the countdowns. Indian technology is highly advanced. In less than 8 seconds, Indian army detects the Pak countdown and decides to launch a missile in retaliation

During the Cold War, if USA launched a nukeloaded missile, Soviet Satellites would inform the Soviet army in 3

But they need permission from the Government of India. They submit their request to the Indian President. The President forwards it to the Cabinet. The Prime Minister calls an emergency Lok Sabha session.

The LS meets, but due to several walkouts and severe protests by the opposition, it gets adjourned indefinitely. The President asks for a quick decision. In the mean time, the Pak missile failed to take off due to technical failure. Their attempts for a relaunch are still on. Just then the Indian ruling party is reduced to a minority because a party that was giving outside support withdraws it. The President asks the PM to prove his majority within a week. As the ruling party fails to win the confidence vote, a caretaker government is installed.

scenario...

The caretaker PM decides to permit the armed forces to launch a nuclear missile. But the Election Commission says that a

caretaker government cannot take such a decision because elections are at hand. The Election Commission files Public Interest Litigation in the Supreme Court alleging misuse of power. The Supreme Court comes to the rescue of the PM, and says the acting! PM is authorized to take this decision in view of the emergency facing the nation. Just then one of the Pak missiles successfully took off, but it fell 367 miles away from the target, on its own government building in Islamabad at 11.00AM. Fortunately there were no casualties as no employee had reached the office that early. In any case, the nuclear core of the missile had detached somewhere in flight. The Pakistan army is now trying to get better technologies from China and USA . The Indian Government, taking no chances, decides to launch a nuclear missile of its own, after convening an all-party meeting. This time all the parties agree. Its three months since the army had sought permission. But as preparations begin, "prohumanity", "anti-nuclear" activists come out against the Government's decision. Human chains are formed and ‘Rasta rokos’ organized. In California and Washington

endless e-mails are sent to Indians condemning the government and mentioning "Please forward it to as many Indians as possible". On the Pakistan side, the missiles kept malfunctioning. Some missiles deviate from target due to technical failures or highspeed wind blowing over Rajasthan. Many of them land in the Indian Ocean killing some fishes. A missile (smuggled from USA ) is pressed into service. Since the Pakistan army is unable to understand its software, it hits it original destination: Russia . Russians successfully intercepts the missile and in retaliation launches a nuclear missile towards Islamabad . The missile hits the target and creates havoc. Pakistan cries for help. India expresses deep regrets for what has happened and sends in a million dollars worth of Parle-G biscuits. Thus India never gets to launch the missile. Well, even if it doesn’t speak much about our political system you know now with all the confusion abounding how wonderfully lucky we can get to be an Indian at times.

BEING GRATEFUL The Law of Gratitude is a natural principle and Universal Law which states, "the more grateful you are for what you have, the more abundance you will attract into your life." The more gratefully we fix our minds on the Universe when good things come to us, the more good things we will receive.

Gratitude works in direct correlation with the Law of Attraction. Here's how ... Being grateful for what you already have in the present, sends out a powerful emotion of faith. Because you acknowledge and appreciate what you have in the present, the faith based emotion believes you will attract more of the

same in the future.

The primary vibrations are 1 through 9, plus master vibrations of 11 and 22. Vibrations above 9 can be reduced to primary by adding the digits together. For example, 10, 19 and 28 are "1's" because 1 + 0 = 1, 1 + 9 = 10 = 1 + 0 = 1, and 2 + 8 = 10 = 1 + 0 = 1. The reduced vibrations are by nature general. The basic vibrations give ballpark information that can be helpful and is summarized by key words associated with each. You will notice that the characteristics associated with each vibration are both positive and negative. If you are aware you will optimize on your positive qualities and learn from your negative ones.

Man Vs Woman

To focus on what you do not have or the short comings in your life, is a guarantee to put the same Universal Law to work with the opposite results. Start and end your day being grateful for who you are and what you have in your life. Make this a daily habit and witness the abundance that comes into your life.

...But haven’t they forgotten something? The belts, watches, earrings, sun glasses, lipsticks, perfumes etc… How careless!!!

EVER WONDERED … Why the sun lightens our hair, but darkens our skin? Why women can't put on mascara with their mouth closed? Why don't you ever see the headline 'Psychic Wins Lottery'? Why is 'abbreviated' such a long word? Why is it that doctors call what they do 'practice'? Why is lemon juice made with artificial flavor, and dishwashing liquid made with real lemons? Why is the man who invests all your money called a broker? Why is the time of day with the slowest traffic called rush hour? Why isn't there mouseflavored cat food? Why didn't Noah swat those two mosquitoes? Why do they sterilize the needle for lethal injections?

Hey, how are you two doing, my lovely ones ? I am not too bad - Just managed to burn some popcorn in the micro. I was scared the fumes might set off the alarm so rushed to the balcony and left the fuming bag there! There 's a 'Bable Hara' - a hookah joint below this house - We are directly above it. The whole place gets smoky in the evening. So I guess I am safe. The fumes could have otherwise been misread as a smoke signal. Phew! Close escape. What do I do all day? Well I usually start my day by doing , no not yoga! -Guess again - By watching a new movie every day! Which means I go back to bed after getting up. How about that ? Hadn’t seen a good English movie in a long time. Dipanker uncle has a huge collection and I have borrowed several from him. "La dolce Vita", the first one I saw, an award winning old film, was completely lost on me. I had heard so much about it but it was too serious for me to relax and enjoy. It made me feel very confused and sad. The next one was a Akira Kurosowa movie. I use to love them because of their sheer picturesque quality - I liked 'RAN', (a Japanese movie based on King Lear) for the way it was captured on camera - But with blood that looked like buckets of fresh acrylic, ashened faces literally so, and all the high melodrama, I thought we had come a long way in movie making. The next one was 'Babble' with Bradd Pitt - neat, crisp and beautiful - It panned the across the continents ( USA, Mexico, Japan and Middle East) to capture the confusion that changed the lives of the people who were somehow involved in a stray firing that nearly killed an American tourist. Finally the Mongol - Wow what a movie! On the life of Genghis Khan. Exiled into slavery as a boy it is about how he survived on a single dream to unite his people - Very inspiring! I keep the playlist on and listen to a lot of music throughout the day. Katie Melua is my latest favorite. You must watch her video when you come home. We must learn to sing some of her numbers infact. Oh guess what! While searching for new songs I stumbled upon this hilarious parody of ‘Hey there Delialah’ - You will burst your gut out listening to its words. It goes like this... Dear Mr Higginson/This is Delilah’s lawyer/I am writing to inform you/ there is a third restraining order, in effect/The first two haven't stopped you as yet/She’s quite upset. May I remind you Tom, my client doesn’t like you/ yet you keep composing songs for her/which means you have the IQ/ of a brick/you couldn't hit that with a stick/ Please seek help quick. Oh we are watching you, you creep (2)Oh we are watching you, you freek/Oh that’s what we do all week/ all the stupid week. Do not address Delilah’s mother as a milf and please do desist from mailing puppy dogs and picture of yourself/ in plain white T’s/ And next time put some pants on please/nice cottage cheese. My client has gone on hiding half way across the nation/but you evidently stalked her to her undisclosed location/in Newyork/ You put it in your song you dork. We are freaking tort...It is by Rober Lund. What a roar! A must hear. I will try and write down the whole song for you next time. Well if you think I am having a lot of fun it was only so the first few days. Now everything is a repeat and a bit of a bore. I am on house arrest all morning. I do all the chores to keep myself busy ( also because there’s only me to do it). Made some Biriyani for lunch today. I am sure I will be able to give you better food next time.

You know that indestructible black box that is used on airplanes? Why don't they make the whole plane out of that stuff?!

I am also taking long walk across the continents, in the evening. I go as far as France, crossing Russia, England Spain and what have you on the way. There are those huge sewage cleaners near England and that place really stinks. But I love the walk along this International city. That’s the only time out until weekends, when we when go mall crawling. That’s gets boring after awhile but you don’t mind. It is the only life line that is in Dubai and one must make most of it. Baba and I look at it a leisurely exercise, as we are invariably on our toes for hours.

Why don't sheep shrink when it rains?

I will hopefully have many more stories to share next time and lots of pictures as well. March will be

.

busy for both of you. Do keep your mind focused and study well. Our prayers are with you
