BACKGROUND
Area breakdown and procedures for the identification of equipment are fundamental requirements for the preparation of PFD’s, C&ID’s, Single line Diagrams and P&ID’s. Anglo Base Metals (ABM) has defined specific policies for asset management and optimisation of the operations, which require these procedures and structures to be in line and compatible with the software currently used by ABM (Ellipse). These structures and procedures may also be used for the development of the cost structure and schedule for the project. 2.0
OBJECTIVES
This document defines the relevant criteria and procedures to be applied in the process engineering activities during the feasibility study. As the study progress it is likely that this document will be modified to accommodate the up-dates and the contributions from the engineering contractor.

Area Breakdown The project is divided into physical areas according to the following structure, which is based on the following criteria: 1. The breakdown is primarily based on the concept of “physical area”, as universally accepted 2. For these cases with parallel lines, the above concept may be superseded by the “line concept”, which is a Ellipse requirement as to properly account for individual cost for a given line 3. The breakdown includes three levels in order to accommodate the comments from SL-Miner 4. Exceptions are applicable to the Mine, where functional criteria replaces the physical area concept 5. Other exceptions have been introduced as to facilitate the common use of the area breakdown structure in the work breakdown structure (WBS) AREA 000
