A RESOLUTION THAT THE UNITED STATES REINSTATE THE FAIRNESS DOCTRINE. Rep. Mariah Neuhauser Detroit Lakes High School
1.
WHEREAS:
The equal distribution of views in the media ensures a variety of opinions to be shared; and
2.
WHEREAS:
By eliminating bias in the media, we will be open to freely express our perspectives; and
3.
WHEREAS:
The Fairness Doctrine has been proven to not infringe upon the First Amendment; and
4.
WHEREAS:
the Fairness Doctrine does not censor, but enchances balance and eliminates bias; and
5.
WHEREAS:
the Freedom of Speech requires boundaries, such as the Fairness Doctrine; and
6.
WHEREAS:
the Fairness Doctrine helps to advance the purposes of free speech; and
7.
WHEREAS:
the Fairness Doctrine is a code, not a mandate; and
8.
WHEREAS:
the Fairness Doctrine does not regulate an equal time period for viewpoints; and
9.
WHEREAS:
the Fairness Doctrine may only apply to controversial media casts; and
10. WHEREAS:
the First Amendment without the Fairness Doctrine can affect policy-making; and
11. WHEREAS:
the Fairness Doctrine will counter-act the conservative-dominant radio; and
12. WHEREAS:
the Fairness Doctrine prevents distasteful views from gaining legitimacy; and
13. WHEREAS:
the Fairness Doctrine improves public disquisition; and
14. WHEREAS:
the Fairness Doctrine remains important despite improved media; and
15. WHEREAS:
the Fairness Doctrine counter-acts corporate control of the media.
16. THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE NORTHERN LIGHTS STUDENT CONGRESS THAT
THE UNITED STATES REINSTATE THE FAIRNESS DOCTRINE.
