Project On Extraction of Iron ore
Contents are : Define Iron Common Ores of Iron Extraction of Iron
Define Iron Iron is the second-most abundant metal in the Earth's crust after aluminium. It is one of the most commonly used metals in the modern world.
Common Ores of Iron : Hematite
[Fe2O3] Limonite [Fe2O3].xH2O Magnetite[Fe3O4] Siderite [FeCO3]
Extraction of Iron
Step 1: Smelting of Iron ore is done with the help of Carbon in the Blast Furnace. Coke(carbon) is react with Oxygen at the bottom of the Furnace to form Carbon Dioxide(CO2).
carbon + oxygen C(s) + O2(g)
carbon dioxide CO2(g)

heat.
BLAST FURNACE
Step 2:
The temperature in the middle of furnace is 1075 to 1275k.
Calcium carbonate is decomposed by heat in the furnace to give calcium oxide (Quick lime) and carbon dioxide. Calcium Carbonate caco3
Calcium Oxide + Carbon Dioxide cao (s) + co2
Step 3:
Calcium Oxide is reacted with Silica to form Silica Silicate (Slag). Cao + Sio2 CaoSio3
Step 4: At the top of furnace the temperature is 875k. In this part Ferric Oxide(Fe2o3) is reacted with Carbon monoxide (Co) .This process gives Iron (Fe).
Ferric Oxide + Carbon monoxide
Iron + Carbon monoxide
Fe2 o3 + 3Co
Fe + 3cO2
